Non religious ceremony readings for long term couples

Stacey, on September 5, 2018 at 9:00 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

FH and I have been together a loooooooong time. A lot of the non religious readings are geared toward new or younger couples and others are kind of cheesy. We have been through a lot, and those readings focus more on couples who are just starting their lives together. They are nice, but I'm just not connecting to any of them. Anyone else in this predicament? Any suggestions for traditional readings (we are probably missing some!) poems, books, songs (or anything else you can think of) are welcome!

We were in a similar position as you when we got married and we ended up using “From Beginning to End” by Robert Fulghum. It kind of emphasis the commitments that have already been made to each other prior this point (the wedding) and this is simply like an affirmation of those promises and commitments. It worked for us because we already made a life log commitment to each other years ago, this was just making it legal.

Thank you! Are you having a friend/family member read it or your officiant?

We pieced together our ceremony from his suggestions. We would have been lost without it!

My FH and I are 25 but we have been together for 10 years. We have grown into adults with each other so, like you, we aren't a new couple. We are writing our own short vows that will basically be along the lines of "I promise to love you today and everyday as I have for the past 10 years, and I promise to share the last cookie, ect" then our officiant will do a very simple "to have and to hold, through richer or poorer, ect" non religious, and it fits us. So maybe try writing out what you want to say to each other and make that into your vows.
