Non-Sappy Father Daughter dance songs

Chelle, on April 18, 2013 at 3:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

What song are you using that's not super sappy? I refuse to sway back and forth with my dad for 2-3 minutes to some horrible country song about daddies and their daughters, or anything with the word "butterfly" in it.

What song are you using?

We are doing a mash-up of My Girl by the Temptations and then Sweet Home Alabama (We are die hard Alabama fans)

Uggghhh! I couldn't agree with you more! I'm leaving it upto my dad and I'm sure he'll choose a classic rock song of some sort. It would be so awkward for me to dance with my dad to Butterfly Kisses or something similar.

    @Michelle M. - I love that! That's so cute. so sweet!

@Janessa- I wish I could just leave it up to my dad! I think he is the only person in the history of the world who doesn't listen to music. He doesn't know any songs at all

I was thinking maybe James Taylor's "How sweet it is". We'll see.

And to the WW Community, sorry about the double topics. I just noticed that there was another discussion about father daughter dances going on today

My dad and I danced to Trace Adkins, "Then They Do". It was kind of odd, but we talked most of the way through the dance. It wasn't my favorite part of my wedding, that's for sure.

Oh, and I made him choose the song. I had nothing to do with it. I did it as an obligation. Sad, but true.

I'm not looking forward to my Father-Daughter dance either. My Dad is not a dancer and we aren't that close, so the shorter the better!

We are doing a suprise "rock the reception" we are starting out to Tim McGraw's My Little Girl (yes sappy I know) and only dancing to that song for about 30 seconds, then we will break into Usher's- Yeah, and then Crank that by Soldier Boy, Teach Me How to Dougie, and a few other funny dances. My Dad and I are practicing our moves, its going to be such a fun memory and I hope our guests will love it! FH doesnt even know!

@Morgan P- I just listened to that song and I love it! Never heard it before but it's really cool.

@Melissa B. That will be awesome! My dad is a total goof and it would be awesome to do something like that with him, only problem is he lives on the east coast and I'm in the midwest- so no time to practice. Hope someone gets that on video so we can see it!

I didn't want anything sappy either. I found this Offbeat Bride post helpful. We ended up using "In My Life" by the Beatles. Still a little sappy (and even dark maybe), but he likes that song so we went with it.

My dad and I are super close and I know i'll bawl like a baby when we dance. So, he told me he didn't care what we dance to and he LOVES the song Landslide by Fleetwood Mac so i'm surprising him with that!

@Chelle- you can still do it long distance, there are a TON of you tube videos you can copy! You can practice separately then quick run through it before the wedding!

I'm sure the video will be on you tube before the night is over, I will be sure to share with you ladies! Smiley smile

We're doing the father/daughter and mother/son dance at the same time so we needed something not specifically about a father/daughter and definitely not cheesy so we picked 'When You Need Me" by Bruce Springsteen.

Farewell Andromeda by John Denver. He is a big John Denver fan. We danced to this all the time when I was little.

Because You Loved Me, Celine Dion. I didn't want anything supersappy or with butterflies either lol. But I picked it because it's how I feel about my dad, and we're both totally going to cry anyway, and we are not criers!

@chelle L. First... I found your post...haha random! Second, I am definitely struggling with this. As personable as my dad is he is NOT one to love dancing. He says he feels awkward. Definitely not something that lags on, and trying to decide if I want those "special dances" to be original songs or have the band cover them. And definitely not sappy for you're dad, he'll be sobbing like a baby the whole time!
