Non-tacky gothic ideas

Though I am officially engaged, my fiancee and I have other priorities to take care of before seriously planning. However, we are considering a gothic-ish wedding.

I have no intention of having it look like a crackhead wannabe Marilyn Manson planned it. I'm thinking more along the lines of an elegant wedding with a splash of Victorian/Romantic goth aesthetics.

The venue I'm considering is Chase Court (http://www.chasecourt.com/).

Some ideas:

-no black dress, but definitely extravagent and reminiscent of another era

-silver candelabras

-if possible, switch out the lightbulbs for a dimmer sort. No colored bulbs.

-red roses. No dead ones.

-I'm stuck between wanting dance music and sticking to the theme. It definitely won't be an all-nocturne playlist b/c that feels desperate.

-Black table cloths also feel desperate, but I'm not sure what color to do without it killing the theme.

Anything else? Do any of these ideas seem tacky anyway?

Sarah, thanks for the advice. I'll definitely opt out of advising dance lessons.

Bryce, that is an interesting stance. Expecting most people to take ballroom lessons, or at least watch a couple how-to videos online, is ridiculous, whether or not I tell them to. I wouldn't think that someone would just walk out right after dinner though. Thanks for your input

"Wolf Man" is good. Like I said, aesthetic wise, it's more traditional and romantic goth. "Bride of Frankenstein" is good as well Smiley smile

Other color schemes to look at would be Disney's Haunted Mansion! The ride, not the movie. It might be a bit more campy, but if you look at the merchandise, there's a pop of color amongst the gray, that you might like! Turquoise and lavender!

I'd recommend the merchandise for the Tower of Terror, too. As I said, just some color scheme and decor points of reference! This one might have better colors to go with the beige walls of the venue.

You could also try dark, jazzy music as well! Lots of great playlists on YouTube for that.

Also Sarah, while I am grateful to know that you think my ideas are interesting, I just wanna remind you that this is very early planning. In fact, serious wedding planning probably won't happen for a couple years at least. We might do something totally different for all we know, and we have discussed other wedding ideas. This is definitely one of our possibilities.

I just joined today, so your wording makes me think you can follow up on people's wedding plans, even if you aren't going, for inspiration and what not. Which is nice. I just don't want you to be disappointed in case we do something different xD

Like I said, not in a shitty way, but because my personality is very much one that is, "I have nothing left to do here. I'm going to leave."

I don't pride myself on being able to talk to strangers, so once all be wedding formalities are over with if I can't dance I'll probably just go home.

Fam, what do you all think of starting off with only classical music for cocktail hour, then having the music slow move to symphonic metal?

Here's a good example of what I mean

Olga, I hope you stay! Even if your ideas change along the way.

I love this forum because we get to see the process/end result for different people and how wedding details work out to fit each couple.

Go for fabrics. Gothic wear is velvet, lace, silk crepe, stay away from standard wedding fare.

Do you. I've heard of a dark Vader themed wedding, so people can do whatever they want. It's your day so make it however you want it to be.

Honestly it depends on your guest list. No one on my guest list would be shocked if I were to have an all classical evening, but they would be stunned and concerned if I had a dj playing club music.

ETA for the record, we're having a live band do mostly classic rock

Sarinis that's true, but I don't think it's fair to have a wedding that few others would enjoy, even if the day is about me and my groom. I agree what we want should be top priority, but I also want my guests to come because they're looking forward to celebrating my wedding, not because they feel obligated to as a relative or friend.

Ms. MRose, not many of the people I plan to invite would be thrilled about an all-classical list. They probably wouldn't expect dance club music from me either, so that's why I think starting with classical music, then moving to more contemporary music is best.

I think to require your guests to take dance lessons would be odd. What you could do would be to play classical music during cocktail hour and play regular music during the reception. Have fun planning.
