Non traditional registry items?

Goingthomas2020, on August 23, 2020 at 5:50 PM Posted in Registry 0 17
Hi all! I originally wasn't going to register because I've lived with my FH for 5 years now and feel like we have everything we need. But many people told me they'd like me to register. What were some useful non traditional things you put on yours?

My husband and I lived together for almost three years before we got married so we asked for updated items. I wouldn't say anything we asked for was non-traditional. It was more like new towels or dishes.

We did the same as Veronica. We lived in our apartment for 6 years together prior to marriage, so we wanted some upgrades on things like better quality knives, pots and pans, towels, etc.

We basically went room by room to figure out if there was anything we really wanted that we might not buy ours or something new we could use. Most of our kitchen stuff my husband got when he went anyway to college so nothing matched so I definitely wanted new. We also registered for a new bed which my mom bought us a gift card for.

I've seen people register for Christmas/Holiday plates, home decorations, etc. which I thought was a great idea if you are already set for the basics. I also think the Container Store is a good idea to browse...maybe you already have everything you need, but some shelves, etc. would help make your home more organized. Last idea is if you're a home owner with a yard (or really any green space)...are there outdoor tools or things like planters, decor, etc. that you'd like (maybe look at like Home Depot/Lowe's for ideas there).

Go for the things you wouldn’t normally splurge on - nice sheets, towels, pillows, silverware, etc. Most things you’ll already have, but this is a good excuse to get the good stuff.

We’ve lived together for 7 years now. We asked for upgraded things, towels dishes, and vacuum. We also asked for fun kitchen tools, decor, personalized items with our new last name. Just things I wouldn’t likely spend the money on for myself but would actually like to have. I’m a pastry chef so all the traditional things people put on their registry for the kitchen, we already had 2-3 of each. The registry people at bed bath and beyond kept pushing us to add a Kitchen Aid when I currently own 3!

We’ve owned our home for over 7years, so I initially was worried about what we could put on our registry. I decided to do a lot of upgrades— new pots and pans (and better rated for our gas stove), new knives, new silverware, nice towels, Dustbuster, a card table and chairs (for parties and get togethers), and some odds and ends. After the shower, I completely clean out the kitchen, reorganized everything (still getting used to switching everything around), and donated all of the old items!

We registered for a lot of upgrade items, too. We also registered for some nicer serving dishes because we didn't have a lot of those and we often end up struggling to figure out which dish to use when bringing food to a party. (We started our registry before covid 🤷.)

    For non traditional things:
·Some nice beach things- compact folding (technically for camping) chairs, a waterproof blanket, and a cooler. ·Plane tickets ·I'm not sure if this counts as non-traditional, but we registered for a steamer. My friend bought it for us, it was delivered before the wedding, and it was super useful. I would highly recommend registering for one even if, like us, you pretty much don't go anywhere that requires nice clothing anymore.

In addition to the upgrades that others have mentioned, we have a desk chair (the Walmart one isn't great now that we WFH full time), and a Godzilla suit because my fiance is a Godzilla collector and we found it funny haha

    Grill accessories.
Outdoor storage container for patio pillows, chair covers, etc.
My husband put a few Dewalt tools we needed. Fun entertaining pieces, like cheese knives and bamboo boards. I also went for some organization pieces.
    Hope that helps! Sherri

As well as some house stuff we registered for some experiences. One of our registry sites is Zola and they had some set experiences we could register for. There is also a way to create a fund and then we also made up of a couple of experiences for our honeymoon like a couples massage and tickets to the Biltmore at Christmas.

On our registry at Bed Bath and Beyond there are a lot of upgrades. We started living together a few months after dating (we were friends first and planned to get an apartment before our senior year so it just made it looking for a 1 bedroom instead of a 2 bedroom apartment) so we had a lot of things already. We also put some hosting stuff on our registry, like serving trays, cheese boards and other items that we wouldn't have bought in college but want to have once we have a house to host holidays.

However, on our Target registry, we had a bit more fun. We registered for a lot of board and card games and some outdoor games like bocce ball and bean bag toss. We also registered for some hiking gear.

Also putting luggage on your registry in my opinion is a must!

On our wedding we will be 2 years living together, but most of our stuff is cheap or used. We are putting upgrades of basically everything so we can get some new nice things. But we are also adding some fun stuff like a snow cone machine, camping gear, board games, and workout equipment!

I asked for a fold able step-stool on mine. My fiance's kitchen cabinets are very well and I'm 5'2 and a quarter. It's rough being short.

I also asked for life size cardboard cutouts of Henry Cavill as Superman, same for Colin O'Donoghue and Colin as Captain Hook from Once Upon a Time for my office/fan girl space.
