I'll have to say "a lot" as my wedding was not at all american ;-) It was in France, where I live with my French husband, but we did a lot of stuff that are not common for a french wedding :

    - we walked down the aisle together with my fiance

    - at the end of the ceremony our guests were tossing coins on us (normally it's confetti, lavender or bubbles)

    - we dindn't have a coctail right before the dinner - it's common in here, couples invite people for drinks and some snacks, and then only some of them stay for the meal and the party... That's something really bizarre for me, so we just have some drinks "sip and sit" and then everyone was invited for the whole evening...

    - we had a wedding cake and some other desserts, the tradition in France is a "piece montée"

    - I didn't toss my flowers but my veil and my husband his bow tie

I’m not doing a garter toss, and if it’s chilly out I will be wearing my husbands old motorcycle jacket that he gave me. Just little things like that. Plus I don’t think we are having speeches.

I love this seating. Our ceremony will be extremely small and I think this is a good idea.

What I like about it (besides the offbeat factor of course):
1: We are literally surrounded by our loved ones, it's a beautiful symbol/metaphor.
2: Everyone is closer to us and can enjoy abetter view. I agree it's a good idea with a small guest list and it works out pretty well with a medium-sized one too. Ours is 70-90 (70 + 20 for potential significant others if some single guests start a relationship) so we can do 4 or 5 circles instead of 8-9 traditional rows.

Sounds weird but my future husband wants a Star Wars wedding cake. It is honestly the only thing he has asked me for, so I am trying to find a way to make it wedding appropriate.

We're just starting planning, but my dad won't give me away, we won't have bridesmaids/groomsmen, it will be outside, and likely a ton of other things.

I love that you’re having your son walk you down the aisle!! My son will be 6 when I get married and I considered having him walk me. Told my mom and she said my dad would be hurt if I didn’t have him walk me and that I should have my son be the ring bearer.

There’s a few things non-traditional for us we are looking at.
My dress will be green (I think), no favors, my bridal party is more than his, simplistic decor, I’m considering growing my own flowers for my bouquets and boutonnières in my garden and using those or going the wood florals, we have fire pits and we will be setting up a s’mores bar for it, having outdoor games, skipping the DJ/band and just making our own playlists to use, superhero emblems on the boutonnières with matching socks, considering a taco truck, there were some other things but I can’t think of them right now.

Okay so once upon a time I was dreaming of a nerd cake for my own wedding! This is kind of the direction I would have gone if I had continued in that vein. I think if you keep all your elements uniform in color or color story and your cake designer is skilled with fondant, you could totally make it sophisticated but also fun!
