Non-wedding events charged as weddings

Michelle, on February 10, 2022 at 1:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
While researching hairstylist websites, I came across several that have a clause in their bride pricing that I found very interesting. “Non-wedding events with a bride in attendance are charged the same as a wedding. These include elopements, rehearsal dinners, vow renewals, engagement photos, reception only, 10 year anniversary parties, etc”. It sounds like they are cracking down on the tip that is frequently mentioned to “tell the vendors it’s not for a wedding” which is good in their situation.

Have you come across this? Would it make you go elsewhere or do you agree with them?

I would go elsewhere. I know they charge more for brides and wedding related events, but that doesn’t make it right. Why should a hairstyle cost more for a bride/wedding than a birthday celebration? It’s the same hairstyle and effort put in.
In my opinion, it’s none of the stylist’s business what event it’s for….just do your job the best you can.

I have not seen this but I would probably go elsewhere if I did. I guess I just don’t understand the higher price for certain services. I totally get it for a photographer who is working 8-10 hours vs. 2 hours for graduation photos. But I don’t fully understand the price increase for a hairstylist. Like Shannon mentioned, I would like the same effort put into my hair whether it be for prom or my wedding. If the trial is included in that price, I totally understand that, because that’s time and use of products. But mine doesn’t include a trial. I’ve heard some say it’s for the “back work” such as emails and setting up appointments, but I can’t imagine that’s still much more because I would still have to make an appointment for prom.

This frustrates me so much! I asked my regular stylist how much it would be to do XY&Z and she said $30. Moment I told her it was for my wedding I had to fill out paperwork and it was $160.

She did open early for me and spent more time on me but... ummmm....

This seems very unusual to me! While I can see charging more for a bride on the wedding day itself (typically extra time and care are spent to make sure the hair is flawless and will last from morning through night), I cannot imagine needing or paying for the same type of precision for engagement photos or an anniversary party!

I wouldn’t, I get it. Weddings come with a high amount of pressure, expectations, and coordination that most other events don’t have, at least not to the same degree.
