North American Honeymoon vs. Honeymoon Overseas

just curious since we were thinking of a honeymoon overseas and want to make sure we aren’t overlooking or missing the full picture.

The 4-day winery tour will be in the wine growing region of Cape of Good Hope outside of Capetown, South Africa. After, we will depart for a 7-day safari in Zambia (at Victoria Falls on Livingstone, Island) and South Africa (at the Tanda Tula Safari Camp in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve in Kruger National Park). We will end with one-day in Johannesburg before we depart home for Washington, D.C.

We are going to Boston! We have been to a lot of places on the east coast and some on the west, but never New England. We may sneak a day in Salem too since it'll be October

Basically it came down to money. It was about 10K for a honeymoon in Atlantis not including airfare and about 6K for the cruise and airfare. Greece and Italy are two places I really want to visit. I also love haunted places and since Romania is close to Italy it kind of makes sense to go while we are there.

We are staying Stateside for our honeymoon ,mostly because of the cost. We are having a winter wedding, so we are planning on a winter vacation in a cabin with an open fire place to relax at. We have both travelled internationally, so we didn't feel we needed to do an international destination this year. Next year his family are planning o. Doing a family reunion in Portugal where they are from, and in a few years my family are plannong a reunion in New Zealand, where I am from. So we have a couple of big trips planned for the future

We want to spend less than $5000 for the Germany trip, which I think is doable based on what I've spent on other trips, but we haven't done much research yet. I've traveled mostly on my own without a touring group or anything; we might try one for this trip.

We are planning on a Mediterranean cruise that goes to Spain, Italy, and France! While we do want something relaxing, we also just love Europe and the culture there. The travel time/time difference is the only negative I see but we know what to expect with that and it's not that bad!

Those sound like incredible sets of lists, rica! That may be something we will have to do to continue traveling. Do you typically try to visit multiple places each year? Or does it just kind of depend on schedule? And totally agree that a beach and all-inclusive are tough to beat!

Haha can totally relate to the "tourist" vacation happening if going abroad. There's just so much to do and see! That's a great point about the time off with honeymoon vs vacation. Especially without kids. Where will your honeymoon plans take FH and you?

Incredible options to choose from, CeeCee! We haven't been to Bali, the Maldives, or Hawaii so I feel like we may have the same thought process haha.

We're going to Paris, but for a while considered doing a California road trip/vineyard tour, or Caribbean resort. We wanted to do California because we've been before and loved it, and thought it would be nice not to deal with long flights, currency exchange, etc. However, we found that doing everything we wanted in California would be very expensive. Then we thought about a Caribbean resort, but nothing really spoke to us. Finally, we both admitted that we really wanted to go to Paris! I think it's a personal preference for everyone. A beach resort is certainly the most popular honeymoon, and the Caribbean is pretty easy to get to from the US. You can also get a lot of bang for your buck depending on where you go. I totally get the appeal!

We are going to France, but we’re waiting a little (wedding in April, honeymoon in July).. if we didn’t have a gap, I’d probably want to go someplace tropical and just rest. I don’t get much vacation, and I wanted more of an adventuring trip honeymoon instead of a resort. I think it’s just preference.

We are doing a cruise because I love the ease of cruising. It's super convenient and everything is one stop and taken care of for you. My partner has never been out of the country so we definitely wanted something where we could see a few different places but also keep it relaxing instead of stressful.

We’re doing a 5 night trip to northern Washington the week after the wedding. My dad’s best friend gifted us his timeshare so we couldn’t get too picky. We’re actually really looking forward to it since we were talking about doing 3 nights in Seattle as a minimoon anyway.
We’re saving up to do a 2 week trip to the Philippines next year around our anniversary. My FH was born & grew up there but never traveled much around his own country. We’re budgeting around $5,000 for the Philippines trip. Hotels average $100/night for 4-5 stars and round trip airfare averages for $700. We’ll fly into Manila, spend a couple days in his hometown, then head to Cebu. You can get over the water bungalows like in Bora Bora for a fraction of the price as well.

Wow, Yoomie?!? That sounds like the trip of a lifetime! Which airline are you flying over there? Care to disclose any expense details? It sounds fantastic.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like you are getting your money's worth out of the trip. And that's really helpful to get a grasp on expenses. Thank you so much! I hope it's terrific!!!

Big trips in the near future definitely gives good reason to stay stateside, Debbie. The cabin sounds really romantic which sounds perfect compared to the other trips coming up. Thanks for sharing, Debbie!
