Not a diamond engagement ring?

We decided not to have engagement rings at all. We still ended up married.

I have our birthstone, our bithdays are Feb 27th & 28th. Its amethyst.

My ring is a pear cut moissanite solitaire. I LOVE it! It's gorgeous and sparkles much more than a diamond I love non-traditional engagement rings. I think it is a more personal touch and while diamonds are "classic", other gemstones are starting to become much more popular since diamonds are (in *my* opinion) very overpriced and don't tend to be a good investment.

@2d Bride I didn't want an engagement ring at all. I only agreed on the condition that he wear one, too. Sometimes I feel angry that we spent all that money on engagement rings.

I wanted to chime in about lab-created stones: I have a ring with a mined sapphire (e-ring) and another ring with a lab sapphire. They both look THE SAME (the lab one is bigger), they both look gorgeous, and they are identical materials. A lot of people look down on lab gems as being inferior, but the only way to tell the difference between lab and mined is that lab stones have no flaws. My fiance saw that as a plus (but the jeweler who did my e-ring only has ethically mined stones, no lab stones), although a lot of people get very, "The flaws make it REAL/unique!" Whatever--it's identical material.

@Stephanie - I actually bought an engagement ring for my fiance as well, a simple tungsten one with an inlay of a dragon pattern. It looks awesome and he loved it, so I was happy!

Mine is a combo of blue sapphire and some diamonds. since we have pretended to be married the last 7 years and had a mock ceremony sitting on our fireplace hearth, i had picked a sapphire/diamond band with a unique shape so we got the e-ring custom made to fit the shape and it has (or supposed to anyway!) sapphire stone about 3mm in size and a row of small round diamonds along part of the band that matches the original ring.

hope to be picking it up sometime next week.

as for traditional diamond - i say go with what you love and your's sounds lovely

Tanzanite is rarer than diamonds

Get what you like-- you're going to be wearing that ring for many years, hopefully. Just make sure FH wasn't hedging cause the ring is out of his price range.

I have a dark blue sapphire in the middle and small white diamonds down the side

I've a AAA tanzanite engagement ring and I love the thing to pieces. BUT, due to the setting and how delicate the gem can be, I'll not be wearing it until we're in a position to get it properly insured. It was passed down from my mum so I'd like to have the safe guards in place for us to get it fixed should it get damaged.

FH found a lovely sapphire that I wear everyday, squareish oval set in a "infinity" sort of twisted band with tiny diamonds. Blue hue stones or my birthstone were always on the top of the list. Diamonds and solitaires never really suited me.

I'm wearing the silver claddagh my dad got me ages ago as my engagement ring. There's no stone.

I have a white sapphire I am not a diamond fan, so it is perfect for me!

Mine is an aquamarine also. I totally love it.

I have a sapphire, not only is it my favorite color and I never wanted a diamond. It's just not my style. But my ring actually increased in value in less than 2 years. So FH made a wise investment!

My engagement ring is a pink pearl with little diamonds around each side. I've always preferred pearls over diamonds so my FH got me a pearl ring.

I don't like diamonds as a main stone, no offense ladies that have them but I think they are boring and everyone has them so I got this

Mine is a diamond but it is uncut.

Mine is a sapphire, and our wedding rings won't have diamonds either. It's all about what you want.
