Hi Everyone,
Please help me decide if it’s the photographer or my own critical voice in my head when it comes to these photos. I just feel both my fiancé and I look awkward, like we don’t know what to do with our bodies. Also all of the photos I have are from a distance when I was hoping to get at least one or two close ups. I’m nervous now to go with this photographer for my wedding due to the lack of direction and proper positioning. Let me know what you all think. Thanks in advance! cfb_1415173.jpg

I believe it is the photographer. Some photos look better then others but they could have done a better job with posing you guys , work on the lighting, centering you in the photo and quality. Ask if they can redo the shoot or get a refund. You two look beautiful though, congratulations on the engagement

Your pictures are so cute! There are a couple awkward ones but I think all of us got a couple of those. However; if you don’t feel mal comfortable with your photographer I would start looking for a new one. Or, have an honest chat with them. You don’t want to feel this way with your wedding album.

I completely agree, I love your pictures, but you need to love them. If keeping the same photographer, express your feelings with them that they are beautiful pictures but not meeting expectations.

When I got my announcement pictures done I felt the same way beautiful pictures but not meeting my expectations, I wish I could have had more directions on what would look really good in pictures.

Hey Kellie! I’m actually a photographer and agree there should be different angled photos and some close up we well! I always have my clients go on Pinterest or anywhere to find poses that they would like to try. That gives me the idea of what exactly you would want! Maybe you could do that and just explain exactly what you’re looking for! You guys look very happy!!

With the advent of camera phones and the simplicity and availability of digital cameras, it allows anyone to say they are a photographer. This is what I believe happened in your pictures. I think what you are looking for is an honest critique of your photos. I do have my BFA in FIne art Photography and have been photographing people for over 20 years.

First, let me say you guys are a cute couple. With a little cropping, change of angles, and some post-process work, these photos could shine. Let's look at the photograph with the beautiful vines, and greek iconic columns.

Not a fan of my Engagement Photos 1

I understand why the photographer wanted to capture the columns and vines. However, there is too much floor in the foreground and the horizon line is slightly crooked. Once the excess floor is cropped out and straightened, you will notice the focus returns to you and your fiancee. The color balance on the original picture is slightly off as well. You can tell by the pinkish hue in the columns. These next few pictures are some quick edits so you can visually see what I am talking about.

Here is a Black and White version of your photograph. I added a soft vignette for a little drama.

Not a fan of my Engagement Photos 3

This next photograph had some potential. It was a cute idea. The first thing I notice is that the color balance is off in this picture. If you notice you and your fiance are a little pink. The second thing I noticed was that your heads had been placed in the center of the photograph. This tells me that your photographer does not understand a fundamental rule in photographic composition, The rule of thirds. This is a fundamental rule in photographic composition and in art. It stems from the theory that the human eye naturally gravitates to intersection points that occur when an image is split into thirds. You can google this and read more up on it because I feel a number of your photographs could have benefitted from your photographer understanding this rule.

Not a fan of my Engagement Photos 4Since catching or spreading Covid-19 is a valid concern, I will let your photographer off the hook for not personally going over and straightening your fiance's shirt. However, the photographer should have instructed him to pull his shirt down a little so it would not look so wrinkly. Another thing I noticed was that your fiance must have had items in his pockets, either a wallet or phone. I always have my clients take items out of their pockets ( usually men) since wallets and cell phones make the picture look odd. Below I have attached a color corrected and cropped version of your photo so you can visually see the difference. Not a fan of my Engagement Photos 5I never do lengthy critiques however, I read some of the responses and I felt you needed visual clarification as to why your photos are not professional. I get irritated with so-called photographers trying to pass themselves off as professionals. There is a lot that goes into a good photograph and it has more to do with the photographer than the camera. I hope I validated your concerns over the professionalism of your photographer. Everyone is nervous in front of the camera. A good photographer can recognize that and compensate accordingly to put you at ease. I would ask for the RAW images from your photographer and pay someone to edit what you have, and cut your losses. (if your photographer only took your engagement photos in a JPG format, that is another sign you should run away.) I can elaborate on this more if you message me. I don't think a re-shoot would help. The only thing that will help this photographer is time and practice. I would definitely hire another photographer for your wedding.

I personally Think engagement pictures photos are amazing. I think you guys look great I want to change it but if you don’t like them you should talk to your photographer and see if he can give you a retake most of them will do that but above above all they are very nice pictures enjoy your wedding.

I would feel how you’re feeling about these photos too. They don’t look
Professional at all and yes, you and your s/o look like you’re not sure how to pose. I wouldn’t go with the photographer. I’m sorry.

You both look great and so happy in love! I am sorry your photos didn't meet your expectations. I do agree that they don't seem the highest quality and seem to be pretty posed. Of course I had a few in my engagement photos where I think I didn't look comfortable (we all have those!), but overall I felt like my photos looked like works of art with the angles, color processing, etc. Do you have any more room in the budget to pay for someone more experienced?

They seem a little staged and taken too far away, unless that’s what you want. Otherwise, they are nice for engagement pictures.

I like the photos on the pier and the photos in front of that blue door. I think you both look great. I do not think that photographer did you justice but that’s just my opinion.

I really think you pictures are beautiful. But if you feel that I’m comfortable with you Photographer I don’t know where you’re located but if I was you I would find someone else and make your day as special as you wanted to be
