Not a very religious couple

Synthia, on January 8, 2021 at 8:50 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 11

So were getting married on new years eve but we aren't very religious how do we go about finding an officiant that won't be over the top with all the religious stuff for the ceremony?

The mayor of your town could do it, at least in PA they can, justice of the peace..

Check out the officiant tab here on wedding wire. Most officiants will do whatever type of ceremony you'd like. Typically your only religious based officiants will be priests/pastors from a church.

You can find a non-denominational officiant really easily on wedding wire and chat with them about your vision before you hire them. Then once you hire one you can make a custom ceremony!

Erin listed some good suggestions. You can also ask a close family member or friend if they would mind getting officiated and marrying you! We're not very religious either, and that's what we're doing! He's getting ordained online (there are several reputable sites).

If you go that route, make sure you check the laws in what county/city you're marrying in and whether they allow that. Some don't accept online ordinations for weddings.

You could always hire a civil one. Search on thumbtack.com.

I would look up celebrants online or on here. They are officiants who will pretty create the ceremony based on what you tell them. We hired one for our wedding and he sent us a questionnaire. One of the questions was about whether we wanted any religious aspects included in the wedding.

Do a search for officiants either in the vendor section or on Yelp. Only clergy in houses of worship stick to religious ceremonies. The average wedding officiant on Google will perform a ceremony with zero religion without having to go to the courthouse as your only alternative.

We aren't religious either. Two of our friends offered to officiate for us and one family member but when I was looking before they offered there were several options here on weddingwire alone. Thumbtack, google. So many great places to look.

We hired an officiant that was willing to create a custom ceremony for us, so it will be personalized and secular.

When you hire any officiant, they will follow YOUR directions. If they won't find a new one.
