Ok, so when i was a kid, i was a lets use the term bad kid, I recently found out my youth record has not been extinguished and well I have no idea when the access period is up! $75 to do a record check could be 4 or 5 years well 4 years was april 1st and 5 years is april 1st of 2016! Just barley enough time to plan a honeymoon. Thinking we will fly to BC or something if I cant leave canada my fiance has never left home so he wont care at all!

You don't need to go abroad for a good honeymoon.

So, you are allowed to go on a honeymoon...you're just concerned of the short time?? You can still plan something, I would assume. Or plan something near you that you can drive. That's still a honeymoon if you take time after your wedding to just be with your SO

What exactly were the charges? And how long ago did you get them?

Depending on the severity of it, you may still be able to go to the Dominican. There are a few tropical countries that accept people even having a criminal record...

Two years ago we went to Cuba for Christmas and my uncle had a criminal record and he had no problem going in.

As of right now my FH and I's honeymoon will be down the Cape. He can't leave the state but we are OK with just going there and later on when he is able to leave Mass we will go somewhere else. He too was a "bad" kid and got into trouble but he's grown up a lot since so we just have to wait it out.

Possesion of stolen property and preach of probation and theft under, all happened 6 months before my 18th birthday as I got 6 month probation and was required by court to go to rehab,m my probation ended the day after my 18th birthday. If I wanted to I can order my passport and everything now and hope that my record is clear when I check it in april Then I could use groupon ro some place to do a last minute all inclusive trip. Who knows im sure everything will work out.

It seems like you've already figured out a plan for it, so good luck! Hopefully it all works out for the best.

Wait I'm confused. Can you not get a passport if you have a criminal record?

There's also no rule that your honeymoon has to be right after your wedding. We took ours about 3 months after so we had something to look forward to once the wedding was over. We didn't even book it until the wedding was over. I was actually really glad we did that. No post-wedding blues! And, in January, we got to escape winter to the DR where it was warm and sunny!

If you have a trip you'd rather do than BC/Niagara, just save your money and wait an extra month or two.

Like others have said, there's no rule that says you have to leave the country to have a honeymoon. a honeymoon is whatever you make it. it also doesn't necessarily need to be RIGHT after your wedding. some people wait months, or even a year before they're able to even go do anything.

sometimes, depending on the charges, you're not able to get a passport or are allowed to leave the country.

my boss's boyfriend has a record and is on probation. they were going on vacation last year and he needed to get a passport and they weren't sure if he was going to be able to because of all that. fortunately, he was. his charges and the type of probation he's on allowed it but that's not always the case.

Janeen, some countries won't let you in with a criminal record. Canada won't let Americans in with a DUI conviction, unless you get special permission. Just as an example.

My husband (American) got into DR just fine, though, and he had a DUI about 7 years ago.

In Canada, you cannot leave the country if you have a criminal record. We do not seal or expunge Juvenile Records, you have to apply for that, a pardon must be granted before a passport will be issued and you will be flagged by Customs. Good Luck! There are beautiful places in Canada to travel, I recommend Montreal! Beautiful, scenic and romantic!

I'm not trying to be a jackass, but how would they know if you have a DUI? Half the time there's not reciprocity between states for driving records, let alone countries.

@Janeen, In Canada, Customs has MTO information and anything that can be brought up on a driving record. DUIs automatically get added to your driving record and any points derived from it. We do not have the same rights to privacy as you do in the States, most things are public record and if it isn't, you can apply for it to be.

There's no time limit on a honeymoon.

Wait till it's sorted, plan at your leisure and go on a nice holiday as a honeymoon - it doesn't need to be right after the wedding. Assuming it does is making a mountain out of a molehill.

ETA: sounds like canada and UK have similar border controls. convictions play havoc with travel here.

You can get a passport with a criminal record but if you try to cross the border with it on record, you wont get across some people get passport as id opposed to drivers lisences! Smiley smile My fiancce said he wanted to wait cause our baby will only be a little over one and its super close to our oldest daughters birthday we can go after everything is done.
