Not another rustic wedding!

I swear 90% of pinterest and wedding ideas I find online involve burlap, mason jars, chalkboard, etc. While I like this look, it's not for me or my wedding (despite, or maybe because I grew up on a farm! haha). I swear 90% of pinterest and wedding ideas I find online involve burlap, mason jars, chalkboard, etc. While I like this look, it's not for me or my wedding (despite, or maybe because I grew up on a farm! haha). My wedding venue is a restaurant/banquet in a city setting on the water. Seems everything I see online is rustic/boho chic/very garden inspired or over the top "glam". I'm looking for something in between and its hard to find... I'm looking for signage, tablescapes, etc.

ETA Please don't take offense. Rustic is lovely décor but just not for me in this venue. Colors are purple, using mercury glass, my dress is ivory lace. I LOVE flowers and lots of greenery but budget may limit this so just looking for other ideas. I'm looking forward to doing more searches using the suggestions provided!

We're doing rustic meets the Shire and I'm super excited about it. I could pull the "I'm from a farm town in Alabama" card but heck, I just think it's fun! However, you can always do the classic stuff which would include lots of mismatched sizes but clear vases, higher end flowers (I'm doing wildflowers with lots of greenery...i.e. the Shire) but I'd just stay away from anything involving wooden gates, barrels, and all the other things people have mentioned and you'll be ok. Smiley smile

Yes!! All I can find ( being from Alabama) is rustic! If I could describe what I want for my wedding it would be elegant. EVERYONE has done "shabby" and I'm tiered of seeing it! It Is way Over done! We included gold into our color scheme to avoid any rustic. We also are using candles as a large part of our decorations to cut cost and the potential of someone saying my wedding was shabby!

We went with rustic chic for our country club venue. We are doing decorated branches and logs with holes drilled in to add candles.

Like I tell everyone...I don't want a farm, barn, burlap, jars or cowboy boots and that's all there really is here...so I went with an old factory for venue, Christmas theme. I liked the vintage look, so I actually looked up weddings from different times. I bought lanterns from ikea and doing wide ribbon for table runners. I actually didn't want a lace dress...but that's what I got. I love it! It has a vintage feel though. I honestly think burlap will show up no matter what you search

Keep the search wording simple, and do multiple simple searches. Use keywords like classy, modern, city, fancy, formal, industrial, etc. and be sure you also include specifics like "decor" or "flowers" so you get better results. You'll still run into those "rustic chic" posts, but not nearly as many. Good luck!

Test out some new adjectives and see what results pop up. How about searching for "classic purple wedding" or "traditional purple wedding." Or how about summer, vintage, June, city, chic - whatever floats your boat! There's a lot out there.

I feel the same way I try to look up September wedding ideas for decor and rustic comes up all the time!

I have nothing useful to add, but your post reminded me that there was a 'trends you're sick of' thead a while back, and someone posted "Burlap-- and I'm using it!" which cracked me up.

It sounds like you and I may have some similar ideas for our weddings. Mine is also on the water and is overlooking San Francisco. The LAST thing I want is rustic. What helped me was to actually step away from Pinterest and look through home decor magazines that I love. I pulled pictures of decor and flowers from there that stood out to me. From there I was better able to come up with specific search words to take to Pinterest.

We're getting married in a beautiful barn, but think more along the lines of strung lights and chandeliers rather than a barn on a farm and hay bails lol. We love mason jars, but HATE burlap. I want it to have some rustic elements, without all the burlap. We're going with burgundy and navy for colors, and want a more elegant/chic look, rather than looking straight out of the country. Try searching rustic elegant weddings on Pinterest and maybe throw your color onto the end too. I've gotten a lot of good ideas for decor that way without producing a million burlap table runners and jars wrapped in burlap as results lol

Mason jars. *shudders* I told our florist that I didn't want any of that green junk sticking out of my flowers. Tight and classic :-)

I've been to weddings with burlap and lace and they were very pretty. I love raw wood and signage and it reflects in my home, but I didn't do it for my reception. We did do more of it for our ceremony. I didn't do glitter or glitzy either. I'm really jealous of thy gorgeous greenery in m's pictures. I'm still bitter about my flowers. Here's a pic of ours. Stupid WW app cuts off pics.

Well I disagree with OP. I love rustic and that's my whole plan and reason I chose a venue an hour or more away from everyone. I live in NJ where EVERYONE does hotel/banquet hall weddings and I wanted something different and off the cuff. Will my rustic historic wedding be off the cuff to Pinterest users? No. But it will be different than the wedding most of not all of my guests have been to. I'm happy with that.

Thanks Tulip! They weren't the right colors. We did a runner and I wanted that pretty eucalyptus leaves but I got like some furry green stuff. I would absolutely 100% get a trial of flowers done before.

I think everyone does the best they can. It's possible to find other styles and I used a lot of different styles to pull for our wedding. To each their own.

We had a formal fall wedding! No burlap or lace and it was in a formal ball room. We had hints of sparkle but not over done. It is possible! It requires a lot of thought and balance though, you can just slap a bunch of Pinterest ideas together and hope it makes a cohesive feel...

One of the center pieces. A bit of shine in the vase but black table clothes making it more elegant but the red color still popped.

We had hints sparkle: the shimmery vase, rice lights, satin dresses but nothing like BLING BLING BLING.
