Not asking friend to be groomsman

Karen, on March 18, 2018 at 5:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
My fiancé is having a hard time deciding what to do. He has an idea of 4 people he would like to ask to be his groomsmen, one of which includes my brother so really 3 spots. Problem is, he’s not asking one of his friends for whom he was a groomsman for a few years ago. How can we deal with this issue without hurting his friend? Is that even avoidable? Are we being too sensitive? Maybe he wouldn’t even care?

It depends on the person. He may not even care.

My FH hasn't asked his groomsmen last July (way too early in my opinion) and one of his close friend's wife told me (while at another mutual friends wedding) that he had made comments about FH not asking him. He would have been upset if FH hasn't asked him.

You FH likely knows is friend best. How does he think he will react?

Luckily, weddings aren't tit for tat and you aren't obligated to ask someone just because you stood in their wedding. Smiley smile

He is not obliged to ask someone just because he was in their wedding party. If that were true all weddings would have the same people involved. Everyone has different circles of friends and relatives with different degrees of closeness.

Maybe he could ask that friend to be an usher instead. That way he’s still a part of the big day
