Im really sorry to hear about your situation. All I would do is sit down and talk to them about how you feel. Explain to them that it means a lot and it would mean even more if they were there because you are their daughter, and not to go because they dont want people to judge them. If it means a lot to you for them to be happy for you and for them to be there for you then let them know how you feel. I hope that everything will work out. Your there little girl and they may be unhappy but on the inside they are happy for you. It will pass. Good luck!

I feel you two. It hurts and people just need to understand it is about you two.

I understand how difficult this can be. I had a roommate who was Mormon and married a man who was Catholic, and they decided to marry in a Lutheran church. Both families were upset and dismayed. And my roommate was in such a bad place over the whole thing.

I would recommend not talking to your parents. They have their feelings and beliefs, and really, what is talking to them going to do? Suddenly make them "see the light?" No, it won't. In fact, it may further entrench them in their stubbornness. Instead, continue with your plans, have the wedding YOU want. Your parents said they will be there, even if it is "for show." Well, so be it. Enjoy your day on your terms.

I'm sure your parents will do the same as my roommate's: eventually get used to the idea, come to like their son-in-law to be, and end up having a great time in spite of themselves! But DON'T push them into it. Allow them to accept it.

It will take time for your parents to adjust to your decision. My mom was disappointed when she found out i chose to get married in D.R.

It took her time to realize that it was my decision at the end of the day and she is helping me with my arrangments. So I think she will come around.

Gaby im so sorry. You will just have to sit down and talk with your parents. This is your wedding and not theirs. I don't mean to sound harsh they just need to realize that we live in a different day and age and that you will marry who you want no matter what they believe in. I hope all goes well with the situation that you are in. Its so sad to hear things like this.
