so were on a 3,000$ budget, were doing everything dyi and as cheap (but not tacky) as possible. Ideas on not serving a meal but having like a dessert buffet instead? Would you be offended if you went to a wedding like that? What time would be appropriate?

I would never be offended by anybody's wedding. It's your day and your budget! I think that some of the suggestions on here about Costco or Sam's Club trays were great ideas. Making large trays of pasta might be a low-budget option if you have someone who's be willing to do the cooking. They could be served buffet-style with Italian bread and salad. Just an idea Smiley smile

I wouldn't be offended as long I was aware of it before i got there and it wasn't dinner or lunch time. Maybe look into a brunch.

I think it would be easier to do it later in the evening instead of in the middle of the day because if you have the ceremony start at around 1 people will need to be there by around 12:30 so they will not have eaten since probably around 11 then to not eat a real meal again until around 6 is kind of long. I think a night wedding would be nice like at 7 maybe? I actually wanted to do that but my venue said music needs to be off by 10:30! Bummer! :/

Also maybe do the ceremony then take a long break like 2 hours or so before the reception that way people can go eat in between while you're taking picture's and stuff..?

I really think an evening wedding would be perfect. If you can find a farm or someone with a large back yard. have your ceremony outdoors, have the aisle lite with battery operated candles placed in dollar store vases. All different shapes and sizes. The have the reception outdoors too, or in the barn if you are able to rent a farm. Display your dessert table, maybe have some pulled pork simmering in a slow cooker all day along side a basket of buns, maybe add a cheese platter and fruit platter. Serve drinks, maybe a cage of beer, and wine. Hire a DJ or have a young family member put together a play list for some music I really do feel that if you are going to invite people for a 6 hours afternoon affair, they need to eat. Kids will get cranky and will be filled with sugar... You also have to consider there are many people who can not or will not eat sugar. You will have to have something for the diabetics people.
