NOT table numbers?

Amber, on July 15, 2013 at 5:05 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 66

Is anyone doing NOT table numbers? Meaning, are you calling your tables anything else? FH and I are considering using different types of birds to differentiate our tables (ie Oriole, Mallard, Hummingbird, etc) but we're not totally decided on the idea. Is anyone else doing NOT table numbers, and what are you doing instead?

I've seen some where people have used cities that they've traveled too that I thought were cute. I'm stuck having to use numbers for the sake of it being easier for my non-English speaking guests.

We are using names of pets we have loved throughout the years. (I'm a vegan, FH is vegetarian plus fish and both HUGE animal lovers)

Example : Jasper, Aeris, Callie, Mason, Daisy....

Why do tables have to table numbers? I am so confused about this. Why can't people just sit where they want?

@Riki -- if you aren't doing assigned seating, then you don't need them.

Yeah, we're doing assigned seating, so people will be sitting at which tables you decide and it's easy for them to find where that is when you have an indicator to follow.

I love the idea of non table numbers and using something that is meaningful to you and you FH and your theme! I say go for it. I would make sure whatever you end up using, make sure it is easy for your guess to find! (large enough and clear enough)

We are not having assigned seating so do not have a need.

We did places we've been to together -- theme parks, cities, whatever I could think of. People figured it out fairly quickly.

@Riki, depending on the size of your guest list, at least assigning tables can make thing flow a lot easier -- you don't end up with a group of five taking up a table and then have empty seats because there's only groups of 4 still looking for a place to sit; you don't have people moving chairs or smushing together to add an extra seat for that last person; groups don't have to split up; you can ensure that grandma isn't by the speakers and that divorced parents are seated apart; people know they can set down their stuff and actually come back to that seat; people know they'll have a place to sit and eat. And more.

Some are against assigning anything, I think at least assigning tables will make the reception less chaotic. No seating plan can work, you just really gotta consider your guests and what's best in that situation.

The wedding I am deejaying this weekend is using wine names for the tables: Merlot, Chardonnay etc.

The wedding I did on Friday used numbers, but had pix of the bride and groom at those ages on the card. Very unique and cute!

I like the bird idea! I've deejayed close to 800 weddings and I've never seen that. Being unique and showcasing your likes/personality is what sets your wedding apart from others.

    GL & Congrats!

We got married on the west coast of Fl, sort of destination. So we did our table names after cities over there. Naples, fort myers, etc. And we found cool postcards to use for the names.

We're naming our tables the different corners from the Top Gear test track. IE: Gambon, Chicago, Hammerhead, etc.

A friend of mine used different years that were important to them. FH's sister used Disney characters because they loved Disney.

We're KINDA doing table numbers, but they're not really consecutive. Since it's a minor Mets themed wedding, we used the uniform numbers of our favorite all-time players (1-Mookie Wilson, 4-Robin Ventura, 5-David Wright... etc).

We're doing table names of pin up models. BUT to help everyone find their table easily we'll still assign numbers to each table.

Each table will be different NY state animal/bird, and the escort cards will have a picture of their tracks, so it will also be a little mini puzzle for them Smiley smile
