Hey everyone! Our wedding is about 5 months away and we are about to buy flights to our honeymoon. We originally planned on going to Aruba, but then I ended up having to buy a car and ended up having to pay $1500 on my dress. So then we decided on somewhere in the Dominican republic but then FH has some things come up financially for me. So now we decided on Cancun because it’s the cheapest opinion for for (outside of the US,) but honestly I’m extremely disappointed. I always wanted to go to Cancun, just not for a honeymoon. I feel so terrible for feeling this way, but I feel like EVERYONE goes to Cancun and for some reason I’ve convinced myself that it’s going to be a less special experience for us. Crazy right? 😓

I’m sure im overreacting (so no point in telling me something I already know,) but I wanted to ask you guys...where is some of the best affordable adults only resorts or some activities to do in Cancun where we can experience something romantic. I guess I’m just concerned on our honeymoon being ruined by kids, etc.

OR...are there any other affordable places you guys suggest we go? Any hidden gems?? Flights round trip for Cancun is $178.....so not looking to spend too much more than that for our flights.

    Definitely! I feel like a lot of the time people do want big extravagant honeymoons, but it doesn’t work for everyone! I figure a trip like that might get super overwhelming for couples right after the wedding, so it’s good to always step back and take in that actual “intimate honeymoon phase/feeling” 🙂

    Never said we weren’t fortunate. “Some of us can’t even afford to go out on dates” includes my FH and I too. Please read my response to FutureMrsKC 🤷🏽‍♀️Thanks

    We are trying to go to new Orleans for ours and I really hope we can. Mayne think of some other places you can go that you feel would be fun and cool to spend time together at.

    If it makes you feel better I'm jealous. I really REALLY wanted to go to Cancun found an amazing resort and fell in love. FH really didn't want to go so we compromised on Jamaica. And with the stress of wedding planning I often feel like my honeymoon is the only thing keeping me going lol. I even have a count down to my honeymoon at work lol.

    OP When FH first met with our travel agent (I also agree you should meet with one) we thought all we were going to be able to afford was Cancun but we found resorts in Punta Cana that were similarly priced although travel is more.

    If Cozumel is available even with other travel like bus etc., GO THERE!!! that was my first choice because they have amazing excursions but we also wanted 5 star resort as we are recluses so staying in a fancy hotel room was more important for us.

    Also I think it is very rude to shame someone for feeling disappointed about their own thing. You have no idea what someone else's life has been like. Sure it is great to count your blessings and what not but just because someone is worse off than what they are doesn't mean they are immune to negative feelings.

    Big sur, CA you could rent a vacation house it is absolutely beautiful right on the ocean and lots of privacy. It's not out of the U.S. but it will give the romantic private and beautiful experience!

    FutureMrsKC is right, we are trying really hard to go out of the US for our honeymoon but since FH has back pay for child support they won't let him get a passport. We are rocking on getting it paid off so hopefully by the beginning of 2020 we should be good.

    I've been to lots of countries (incl Greece, Peru, Sri Lanka, Costa Rica, etc) and seen beautiful nature. Cancun/Playa del Carmen area is up there in one the most beautiful places. For diving or snorkeling: the cenotes are so gorgeous. The reef in Cozumel is amazing. The underwater museum in Isla mujeres is also amazing.

    You have a lot of culture and good food. You can drive to Chichen Itza, Valladolid, etc.

    I did. Sorry, but I see this as such a non issue because of my current situation. Maybe you can’t afford to go out on dates either but at least you can go on vacation, which my FH and I have never been able to go on a proper vacation by ourselves. At least you get to go on a honeymoon.

    Have you compared pricing between cheapcarribean.com and book it.com. You may be able to find a Punta Cana, DR trip for similar pricing as Cancun! In my opinion, the Caribbean is the Caribbean basically wherever you are so I think it will be special either way!

    I agree with ALL OF THIS! You gave some GREAT advice! I’ll definitely look into a travel agent etc!

    Also, I already feel bad for feeling the way I do. If we work our butts off for ONE THING (going to Aruba or an out of the US honeymoon) and we still come up short, OF COURSE we’ll be very disappointed. We’ve been through soooo much, as we all have, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been in a less fortunate position (I still am.) I know people don’t have what I have or not able to do what I do, but just because we can go to Cancun doesn’t mean we’re not struggling or that we have money.
