Hey everyone! Our wedding is about 5 months away and we are about to buy flights to our honeymoon. Hey everyone! Our wedding is about 5 months away and we are about to buy flights to our honeymoon. We originally planned on going to Aruba, but then I ended up having to buy a car and ended up having to pay $1500 on my dress. So then we decided on somewhere in the Dominican republic but then FH has some things come up financially for me. So now we decided on Cancun because it’s the cheapest opinion for for (outside of the US,) but honestly I’m extremely disappointed. I always wanted to go to Cancun, just not for a honeymoon. I feel so terrible for feeling this way, but I feel like EVERYONE goes to Cancun and for some reason I’ve convinced myself that it’s going to be a less special experience for us. Crazy right? 😓

I’m sure im overreacting (so no point in telling me something I already know,) but I wanted to ask you guys...where is some of the best affordable adults only resorts or some activities to do in Cancun where we can experience something romantic. I guess I’m just concerned on our honeymoon being ruined by kids, etc.

OR...are there any other affordable places you guys suggest we go? Any hidden gems?? Flights round trip for Cancun is $178.....so not looking to spend too much more than that for our flights.

Thanks in advance! ❤️

What did I assume? Both references were things you’ve stated previously. Yes it’s a public forum. I guess it was okay when you decided it was okay to dismiss me by saying “this ridiculous conversation is over” but you don’t want it done to you. I don’t know your financial situation but every couple is different and every wedding. No one is better than anyone else. Enjoy your day.

You are hijacking the OP's thread. You cannot afford to go on a vacation or on dates, we get it. Start your own thread if you want to talk about that. OP doesn't have to justify her feelings to you because of your situation.

I said that because I had intended not to continue with this conversation (which didn’t happen but oh well). I didn’t want it to turn into a flame war where we were arguing back and forth. Sorry, it’s been a stressful week and emotions are on high at the moment. I’m also more sensitive than normal since I have my cycle right now. So, your response felt harsh and kind of hurt me, but it also made me realize maybe I was being harsh with my own responses, which is why I apologized to OP. Hope that clears it up.

It’s okay! I feel the need to be defensive because I felt that you guys assumed that we aren’t in a bad situation too. Like I originally said I didn’t want the post to come off as ungrateful, but we’re literally giving 125% each to make this work just to find out it’s not good enough. Of course I’m going to be upset. I just don’t think it’s fair to compare situations bc everyone and their situation is unique. We count our blessings daily and I want everyone to get what they worked hard for. As a bride you deserve the honeymoon of your dreams and it’s upsetting to hear that you might not have that, but I don’t think I should have to adjust how I feel because it seems like to you like we’re in a better position. You saying that my problem isn’t really a problem because you have it worse, is very upsetting to me because it’s like saying me and problems are irrelevant. You not being able to get the honeymoon you deserve is upsetting to me and it’s very much a problem too, but that doesn’t negate the fact that I have a problem too.

Sorry about the long response! I definitely see where you’re coming from though and I respect that.

Cancun is a lot of fun, but I get your reservations about it. Tulum is pretty awesome too and nearby and less "vegas on the water" than Cancun.

I haven’t heard of Tulum so I’ll take a look because I’m worried Cancun isn’t as romantic because of the “Vegas on water vibe.” On point with what I was concerned about!! Thank you!!

Thank you for being understanding and accepting my apology. I agree with what you said, we all go through tough times. It was not fair of me to make an assumption. Everyone deserves to have the things they desire, especially after working hard as you said you and your FH do. We’re also working to better our situation. I hope everything works out for you and you have a wonderful wedding and honeymoon that makes you happy. 😊

Honestly, Cancun is really fun too so don't stress too much if you wind up there. I highly recommend Club Med Cancun as an all-inclusive. They have water sports and fun things to do.

Dont stay in Cancun. Stay in Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel or Isla Mujeres. Cancun is where the partying happens. All the other areas are quieter and less college-crowds.

You should definitely research more. You can easily find good deals. I also wouldn't harp on flight price alone, you should look at the trip total because maybe the hotel price is better for a different location where the flight prices are higher so it can even out. Come up with a total budget for both of you for flights and hotels first. Check travelpirates.com for deals/error fares, and travelzoo.com, jetblue vacations, apple vacations and as others have said cheapcaribbean.com and groupon. There are so many options you just have to look for them. I'm super into travel and I aim to do it on as much of a budget as possible. Also, depending on the location you are leaving out of you might have more options. You can also try to price Curaçao ....it is similar to Aruba, but more affordable!

I got a credit card with travel points that I plan on using for my honeymoon. We’re going to Costa Rica and we already have enough points that our flights are completely free! The chase card I have had a sign up bonus so we used it for EVERY expense and immediately paid it off to get the bonus (equal to $600)
