Number of people at 72-inch round table?

Emily, on September 26, 2014 at 1:45 PM Posted in Planning 1 18

My FH and I are having our reception in a large backyard on November 1st, and are running into a little trouble fitting everyone in! (Unexpected "yes" RSVPs are making our guest list bigger than anticipated!) Has anyone put 12 people at 72-inch (6 foot) round tables? We are having a food truck cater our reception so we don't have large place settings at all (just a napkin, a menu card, and water/beverage glasses), and most rental websites say you can fit 10-12 people at that size table... Just haven't seen an example of how it looks. Has anyone done this or seen it? (Pictures would also be greatly appreciated!) Thanks!

We are putting between 6-10 at our tables. I will let you know how that goes for us.

Ten would be comfortable, 12 would be a bit crowded (unless you put all the kids at that table).

I have 72 in tables at my reception, and my venue coordinator said that they can seat 10 to 12 people comfortable. We are only putting 8 people at each table, and it is VERY spacious. I think 12 should be fine...

We had 60 inch rounds that we put anywhere between 6 and 10 people and they fit comfortably with 10 - i think you should be fine with 10-12

We sat 12 people at the 72'' tables, and space was not an issue. Any more than that might feel crowded, though.

We had 8-10 people at 72" rounds.

Our guests were all adults and a good portion of them are on the larger side (I come from a family of giants, particularly on my dad's side of the family. DH also has some "tall gene" things going on in his family. Many of our friends are taller/bigger people.)

I wanted to make sure that there was plenty of space for people to get up/down without the annoying "chair shuffle" AND that everyone's knees would be clear of the center supports on the tables.

Here is a picture of a 72" round with 10 chairs.

EDIT: Added a pic that shows the table top of a 72" rouns with place settings for 8 people

It's fine. No more than that though! In a perfect world, 10-11 people on a 72" round is ideal for giving people more space to get in/out of their seat and put extra drink glasses on the table - but once the plates are cleared it's fine.

A couple of our 72" tables had 12 people. They were all family and a mix of kids and adults, so it worked, but it would have definitely been tight to have 12 full-grown adults there, and maybe a bit too familiar if they were strangers. . . .Sorry I don't have any pics to show you. . .

Are the charger plates pictured 13" or 10"? I thought I saw someone shared a picture to demo 72" round table that had 10 chargers and they were practically touching each other. Thank you for sharing these pictures!!
