Hi ladies! So here's a personal question/topic. I've never used any form of BC. FH and I decided to wait until we are married to be "active", so the whole topic is uncharted territory for me. I am planning to start taking the pill after the wedding (9/29 wedding)and my OB/GYN wrote me a script for microgestin 1/20. Ive read that weight gain is one of the most common side effects for this medicine, and BC in general. Given how soon the wedding is, I'm going to wait until after the wedding to start taking it. -- don't want any surprise weight gain that will require additional alterations. And honestly, after working out 4-5 times a week to get in shape for the wedding, i'd be pretty peeved if I were suddenly 10-15 lbs heavier on the big day!

But I'm just curious -- did anyone taking the pill NOT experience weight gain? Thanks for your insight, gals! My OB/GYN said weight gain isn't a "confirmed" side effect, but I'm skeptical since I've seen so much anecdotal evidence otherwise..

I didn't gain any weight either but I also experienced a lack of desire. That sucked.

The reason a lot of birth control pills cause weight gain is because they give you cravings. As long as you eat right and exercise the pill won't "magically" make you gain weight.

I gained weight when I started the pill, but it was during college so I was also binge drinking, eating Jimmy Johns at 2am after leaving the bar, and trading exercise for studying/working.

After 3ish years I switched to Mirena (which is awesome, btw!) and haven't lost any weight, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't the pill.

To echo what others have said, be careful and use protection before you start! And once you're on it, tell your doctor about anything you think might be weird. It can take a couple months for your body to adjust, but you shouldn't be experiencing any terrible side effects. Lots of people have to try a couple different pills before they find the one that works best for their body.

I never had any problems and i have been on a few. it varies from person to person unfortunately. But when you start the pill, it isnt immediately effective. for the first few months you should be on another form of birth control (condoms) as well.

Hello! This is a super late response but I actually started microgestin same dosage, 2 months before my wedding because I wanted it to be good and in my system and have my body adjusted. This was May of 2015, my wedding was in July.... Now I didn't notice weight gain that first month, BUT I was in 2 weddings before my own and the dresses were tighter on me... Mind you I workout and eat well... I know for the first few months I was married we didn't eat the best, but I still wasn't eating like crap.... Like it was just the typical diet. But I weighed 148LBS before starting BC, and it was my first BC ever... Mind you I am 5'5 and very dense because I lift weights, but I never look the same amount I actually weigh... By Xmas 2015... I weighed 180lbs..... So of course I freaked out.... I could tell I was gaining but didn't think it was THAT much... My breast grew 2 cup sizes as well... I started getting back on track hard core after that in January and i eat a low fat, calorie, and low sugar diet... From January to now I've only lost 10lbs... Mind you I have NEVER had trouble with weight more have I ever had trouble with losing it if needed.... So I am actually getting off of birth control. Today was my last pill... I talked to my doctor and she really didn't know what to tell me, got my thyroid checked and it's performing,.. So I blame the pill... I attached a picture... The left is me before the wedding and BC.. Same year... And the right side is me just a month ago... This is the heaviest I've EVER been... And I workout 5-6 times a week, HARDCORE workout
