NWR: Anyone try Seasonique birth control?

Rae, on November 9, 2017 at 12:15 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 13

Recently got my prescription switched to Seasonique from a regular BC pill. Doctor thought it would be a good idea based on my recent ovarian cyst problems and heavy periods. I've never been on something that lowered the amount of periods I had for the year. I did the math, and if everything goes okay and to schedule, it will mean no period around my wedding and honeymoon time, win! Anyone else on this or have taken this? What was your experience?

Doesn't any form of BC pills have the ability to decrease the amount of periods. I take regular BC pills and have 4-5 periods a year. I just start a new pack instead of doing the placebo pills

@Keisha, normally I take the placebo pills and have my period every month, but technically yes. Even my gyno said it was all in the way it's marketed. But it will be nice to have all 90 pills on hand.

Keisha it's a 3 month pill pack- so you just roll through and don't get a period for 3 months- well- 2 or 3 depending on how your body rolls. So there aren't placebo pills to skip- you actually just go 3 months on and then off.

Sometimes after 3 months my body is like- oh on periods- sweet- so I wind up skipping the on after. Sometimes (like this time) at the end of the second month- my body was like "bleed? time to bleed?!" and I Got light spotting- I just keep taking pills.

So it depends- but yeah- reduces periods over all since you end ever 3 months.

IMHO it's fucking great- but be careful- it can tank your sex drive- significantly.

@JoRocka, I already experience a lower drive on all the BC pills I've had. Did yours get worse after switching from a normal pill?

@GreeneBunny, oh gosh, that's awful. I know the pill can cause spotting, which I don't mind as much but continuous bleeding sucks!

Rae- I dunno- I've been on and off pills since 2006. I think I switched to generic seasonique 4-5 years ago.

I don't know if it's my new job- my age- the pills- the chemistry with my husband? I dunno- it could be D all of the above or A- just the pills- too many variables to really tell.

When we have sex- it's GREAT- like well lubricated and things are good. So that's not an issue- it's just getting started that seems to be part of the problem and I'm kind of like meh about initiation. So- YMMV- but the actual sex is fine- so that fortunately hasn't been an issue- I know people get dried out and totally uninterested and it's not fun/good for them. So for me it's just a start up issue- which again- could be from anything.

I’ve never used this pill but my doctor used to recommend back to backing my pills all the time. I’ve never had pack with The placebos, I just started a new pack.

I tried it way back in college. I had a terrible reaction to it. I used to get insanely long and heavy periods. I used to call my doctor because I'd have 6 weeks of 1 pad per hour periods and the cramps were horrendous.

I officially threw in the towel at the end of the semester when I was running on campus and got light headed and passed out. Apparently having those crazy long periods caused me to become anemic. I never went back to BC pills after that.

IUDs are my life now and I love them.

I've been on generic seasonique for a few years now. I have endometriosis and I had ovarian cysts surgically removed five years ago. My doctor told me to skip the placebo pills so that I don't have my period at all. I'll still randomly get my period though. Not monthly, maybe every other month. No rhyme or reason. That part is annoying but other than that it has been fine

I used BC the way that was intended since I was 15 before that brand came out.

So, PPs who have taken normal birth control like Seasonique (skipping placebos), any weird side effects at first? Best benefits?

I was on seasonique a few years ago. I wanted it because you only have 4 periods a year, but I had a lot of spotting. It just wasn't worth the hassle, and it made me feel kinda blah, so I switched to sprintec. Everyone is different, and has different reactions, so it might work for you!
