I'm switching from the pill, Ortho Tri Cyclen, because it's been really raising my blood pressure. I'm switching to the copper IUD, because I LOVE that it does the trick without any hormones! I've never had an IUD before. Experiences? Advice? One girlfriend has the hormonal IUD and loves it. Another...

Another girlfriend said she rather die than try an IUD again since it was unbearable painful for her!

Progestin isn't as effective but if you take it religiously on time there are less issues. Did your FH or husband talk about what you will do if you do become pregnant? You could use condoms along with the pill.

When I was on the mini pill it messed up my period more than the normal one. But I went hormone free and am so glad I did

I had Mirena twice. The first time for 5 years and then for another 4. I loved it and would recommend it. I never had to worry about remembering anything and my periods were way light! Now fh and I have two kids together and he got snipped so there's no need for me to get it again but the thought has crossed my mind to get it again to avoid the horrific murder scene that occurs every month

In my experience it wasn't painful. There was some discomfort and cramping when she was putting it in with some slight spotting after but other than that it was fine.

I was actually about to get ParaGuard last week instead of Nexplanon, but it turns out I miraculously got pregnant with the implant so...

Also be careful af with the NuvaRing. I tried it. Horrible cramps. Extreme, suicidal depression. That is a bad place to experience burning, too. Couldn't keep it in longer than 4 days.

I had a Mirena and it was really painful to insert and it knocked me flat for a weekend. I also got depressed (something that had not happened on the pill I had been on). I had it taken out because I had so many complications. Cysts that formed and ruptured. Severe cramps. Constant bleeding and infections. Not to mention that I felt like absolute shit. I'm still climbing out of the depression fog and I had it removed in early to mid September. I was just having this conversation with my SIL today and she said she and her DH had always just used condoms since she had so many issues with hormonal birth control. I wouldn't recommend an IUD because of the complication risk. Good luck!!!

I had high blood pressure so I had to go off pill and any hormonal IUDs so I have the non hormonal one. Honestly, it's been wonderful. I have heard plenty of horror stories but I have nothing but good experiences. Of course when you first get it you will probably have some cramps but just your typical menstrual cramps. For the first few months my periods were slightly heavier and lasting the full seven days while my body was adjusting but now it is actually much lighter and about 4/5 days.

I just had mine removed. I used the copper one and I bled all the time. My periods went from 3 days to 10 days and I spotted in between. I went to a new gyn and she said her office doesn't even like to give them out anymore.

I agree that the nuvaring, as somebody mentioned earlier it put me in such a bad place emotionally my mom bullied her way into my gyno's office so she would see me that day. I have the paraguard I love it. I always have had terrible cramps so there was really no changes and my periods were short so now they're up to 5-6 days. Would highly recommend!!
