I've been on Ortho-Cept/APRI for about 8 months now. It has definitely made my periods lighter, and all but alleviated painful cramps. I still feel cramping, but it's mostly just annoying not really painful. It's also completely gotten rid of the horrible acne I've had for 10 years.

Be patient though, it takes a few months for your body to change.

ETA: It's the first birth control I've ever been on as well.

Thanks. Just read alot of reviews. And was thinking about being taken off. But I'll give it a chance. Only just started it two days ago.

I highly recommend Nuvaring for these, plus you don't have to remember to take a pill everyday which is the best!

@julie they don't recommend it for me. She said to start off try the pill. Plus I thought why not I already have to take a pill at night anyways.

@Portlandia13 have you gained weight with it. I know everybody's different just curious. Or did it make you lose weight. When I talked to my doc. She thought this was the best, I had said I didn't want to gain weight.

I've been on April for a few years now. That is the only kind I have tried that got me on a regular cycle.

Also I have fairly severe ovarian cysts --since being on this pill...I havent had any burst..which is a great relief!

@Mrs.Shell when I first started I think I had some extra water retention, so I was concerned it was weight gain, but it wasn't. It went away. It did make me go up a cup size, which I was pissed about because I was already a DD. But overall, no, I haven't gained any weight.

Today I have an appt so I get get birth control to stop my period all together (hopefully). From 2006- 2011 I took the depo shot. Did not have pain or period the entire time. Since 2011 my cramps are beyond horrible. To the point where if I'm in the grocery store I have to drop to the floor and control my crying. Nothing helps. I'm going to get the depo shot again. I did cause a little weight gain but my doctor suggested against the pills due to my migraines and memory.
