NWR- Average tattoo cost?

Mrs. Kline (Sass), on September 20, 2010 at 6:29 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 18

Roger wants to know what I want for my birthday (October 30th) and I have been planning on getting a tattoo once we are married. Since we are getting married 2 weeks before a tattoo seemed like a good suggestion. I just don't know how much they are and if its too much I will wait and get it for Christmas. I know they vary but what is an average price range?

It depends on the size and colors really, what do you want?

This is REALLY variable--it depends on a lot of factors. How big a tattoo are you talking? How much fine detail? Will it be color? If so, how many colors will be in it? Do you have a design in mind already, or would you want to work with the tattoo artist to create something?

In general, do not skimp on tattoo costs. If you have a range of prices given by different artists, go towards the high end.

By the way, all shops charge a minimum fee, so even if you want a teeny tiny one, you will have to pay the minimum at least, which is anywhere from $30-$60

DS has a very basic tattoo, black ink only, of a biohazard symbol about 5 inches in diameter on his shoulder, and I believe it cost $150 in Madison from an artist of whom my friend with a lot of tattoos thinks highly.

Yup, they're both right! It also depends on where you live...I have 2 tats that are similar in size, etc, and they were VASTLY different in price because I got one in NYC. Totally worth the higher price, though, because the artist was amazing!

I have the design figured out already. I don't know about the colors yet. It will be a heart locket on a ribbon with writing on it. I guess that means its intricate. I will draw up what I mean for you guys to have a better idea what I mean.

Your birthday is a day after mine! But I think I'm a decade older, lol.

My smaller ones were $120-$150, my larger ones $225-$250. Find a good place, the best your money can buy, because this is something that you will have for life (plus six weeks) and don't want to skimp on quality and have regrets later.

I have a small "stamp" on my wrist an inch by 1/2 inch all black that cost $50= tip then I have a very large color tattoo on my side that was closer to $350.

50 bucks is minimum just for the needle cost usually. I'd say yours should be 150-250 depending on your area(in the country) and how much detail/shading you want!

Honestly it really depends on the tattoo artist, they set the price with what they feel is right. I have a fair sized rib piece, used black, pink, purple, maroon, and white, its a heart, has shading and saying till i loved i never lived. It cost me only 110 and this was at a very good tattoo artist.

I would just take it into the shop you like or email it to them and see what the cost would be. I usually buy my FH tattoo for his birthday. Never been more then $200.00 but it really depends on the Artist.
