NWR: Baby Shower for 2nd child?

I have a friend who is currently pregnant with her 2nd, and her very best friend told her flat out she wasn't hosting a baby shower for her and said child because it is tacky. The baby is not the same gender as the first so i was a bit taken aback by this. Thoughts?

I haven't attended many baby showers.. I've had one friend do a baby meet and greet for her first as she didn't want a shower - they had everything they needed.

I've attended a baby shower for a friend's second and third kids - they were twins and a bunch of big ticket items were given (mostly by the couple's parents). Had this friend only been having one baby in her second pregnancy I think it would have been a much smaller event.
