NWR Dark and Lovely hair dye

Nadine, on November 14, 2013 at 10:24 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 25

Okay I am getting mixed reviews with Google. Someone gave me a couple boxes of hair dye, they were donated to a church but the church said they cant hand out hair dye so they gave it to a friend who is a hair dresser and she gave me 2 boxes. Sweet free hair dye!

Any who it is Dark and Lovely #394 Vivacious Red. Its a great color and I would love to use it. But I dont know if I can. I dont know if this is a dumb question. I hope not. Are all hair dyes made the same? Can any brand be used on any type of hair? I have used hair dye MAAANNNNYYYY times ha (Just not recently) So I am itching to use this dye but I wanna make sure I can.

Hellpppppp haha

Yeah my moms a hair dresser also. I dont go to salons. I either let my mother do it or do it myself. I will never go to a salon again. They messed my hair up once in a BIG way. Now I will do it myself ha. Just my preference.

I would say unless you resemble the lady on the box dont use it..............

On the other hand I would assume your friend the hairdresser would not have given it to you if it would screw up your hair if you used it!

I always do it myself just because it costs $10 for a box and $40+ to get it at a salon and i've never had a problem...

Not all dyes are the same but honestly I choose by color and use it and i've never had a problem no matter what brand i've bought but I may just be lucky. If you're worried about it maybe do a strand test with a piece underneath first before you do your whole head.

Lol yes I would never bleach my hair!! I have red hair so it doesn't take dye really... I can dye it brighter red, or darker red haha i have done permanent straightening on my hair at home because again $25 at home, ridiculous amounts at a salon and thats been fine too lol

Dark and lovely is made for African American women. on all of their hair dyes, there is an African American model. I think this is because their hair is textured very differently. If I had to guess, I would say the dye would work just the same in any texture of hair but I think the conditioner or treatment it comes with May cater to their texture of hair. That's just my guess. I'm bi-racial and I have used MANY different brands including this one and I never noticed any significantly different results. My hair is more of Caucasian texture

If you're going only a shade or two lighter or any degree darker, at home is fine.

If you're trying to go significantly lighter, go to a pro.

Also, I have very naturally curly hair and have used ethnic hair products with no problem.

This post makes zero sense...if your mom is a stylist, why are you asking a public forum for advice? She should know these answers right?

I'm a Licensed stylist and instructor for 18 years....stop being cheap and go get it done professionally. Regardless of the product, it's free box color that could be expired and you are unsure of what could happen? Not to mention there are many factors to color in the effort to"look like the picture". Uhhh...Go to the salon. But on the flip side, I love clients like you. Trying to save money and then mess it up, but remember, ... it'll cost you more for us to fix it! Smiley smile

She said that her mom was asleep so she wanted to see if we could give her answer or if she needed to wait and talk to her mom...

and i suck at anything hair related and i've still never had to pay for someone to fix it. its not being cheap to do something at home that comes out just as good and save $30+... IMO anyway...

Because it is late and she is sleeping. I'm not going to wake her up over some hair dye. I was hoping to do it tonight so I figured is ask for some advice. Every hair color has an experation date on it. So home users know they are using a product that isn't 6 years old ha.

And its not about being cheap. I don't like salons. Women like you don't listen well and when you fuck up you don't care. Just another buck. No thanks!

Lol...ok unless you live in a town of 90 people, I fail to believe no one is qualified to do your hair. So instead of trusting a different professional, you do it yourself? Oh. Ok.

    *blank stare*

Clients who think they know more than the professional...a hairstylists worst nightmare.

    Good luck with that!

@CHLOE ...that may be great for you, but fact is, it depends on the color you are putting in, the color you started with, etc, etc etc. Again there are many factors.

The color SHE is trying to do requires multiple steps unless her hair is platinum blond right now. It's a method to this.

I've been doing my own hair my entire life. Nothing you say will change that. Sorry not sorry.

Now if you have a product review I'd love to hear it. If not then there is nothing else needed here. Smiley smile

    Have a good one.
