NWR Does anyone else have Keratosis Pilaris? (A.K.A Chicken Skin.)

Staci, on March 7, 2014 at 2:06 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 21

Does anyone else have this skin condition? How do you deal with it? It is almost spring and I want to be able to wear shorts but I hate the ugly bumps on my thighs,

Yes, I have it, sigh. So I've heard several things work for different people so try a few of these. I purchased a lotion specifically to treat it called Lac-Hyrdin. I've heard gentle exfoliation and applying a lotion 2-3 times a day on the affected area helps a lot (this helped the most so far), and then I've also heard taking a shower and using coconut oil on the area also helps.

It's on my arms and I'm trying desperately to get rid of it for the wedding. I hope that lotion arrives soon.

It is just excessive build up of Keratin and is worsened when your skin is dry.

My MOH has it and she uses a Clarisonic MIA to keep it under control. It works for her.

FH has it, but he is a boy and doesn't care, so he doesn't do much of anything. But I did read that regular exfoliation and moisturizing helps, but it isn't curable.

Thank you CeCe. I will try some of those. Mine is mostly on my legs. I have a little on my arms but it isn't as noticeable. I want so desperately to wear shorts and cute dresses when the weather is nice but I hate my embarrassing bumps.

I feel you :/ Every time I've put on my strapless dress so far my first thought is, so pretty! Then, ugh, look at the red bumps... it looks like I have a rash. I almost never wear tank tops because of it. It wasn't as bad until I moved up North 3 years ago and I just talked to my doctor about it last week. She said try the lotion. I did the Clarisonic and it helped a tiny tiny bit in the beginning, but then it seemed to just irritate mine.

I also saw olive oil/sugar scrub (homemade) recommended to exfoliate so I wanted to mention that Smiley smile

I get in on my upper arms and thighs every once and a while. I notice it comes back when I take a few days off of juicing. Juicing has been the best way for me to clear my skin.. Acne and the bumps go away completely. Carrots for the win!

I read great reviews for a line of products called Dermadoctor that is sold at Sephora. I bought their product called KP Duty for my daughter and she uses on her back. It works great! And a huge jar is only about $50. Works great! All of their products are great! I also use "Ain't Misbehavin' " for my facial cystic acne and it works really good! The best thing about their product is that a little goes a long way. I have had my one bottle of face wash for over a year now.

Cece- I live in Oregon and I swear it gets worse when the weather gets colder. I will look into the lotions and the sugar scrub.

Jaimee G. I read somewhere that it could also be a Vitamin A deficiency. Which I wonder if it is since I don't really eat much vegetables.

It's very common, but it's not obvious that it's common because it's not that noticeable on other people.

I have it on my thighs and my upper arms. I mostly do nothing because meh, but the idea is that you have too much keratin clogging your pores. So if you exfoliate, you're going to clean out your pores better, and if you moisturize, you'll soften the keratin plugs and they'll be less bumpy/easier to get rid of while exfoliating.

Coconut oil is apparently very effective, but not effective enough for me to use it all the time.

I have it too on my arms and hate it!! But what Krystal said about the stuff from sephora, my friend just told me about it! She uses it and says it works great! I'm buying a jar of it tomorrow!

I have it on my arms, back, upper legs and stomach and so far have not found any product that works. When I asked my doctor about it she said there wasn't really any treatment for it and that it may start to go away by the time I reach age 30. I might need to try the thing from sephora to see if that helps since my dress has a low back and I would like to get it less noticeable on my arms and back.

I have always had this on my arms and didn't even know it had a name. lol I use the Mary Kay microdermabrasion or their satin hands and it helps if I keep up on it.

Omg my mom always said I have chicken skin... people really call it that?? Rebecca - I am 31 and I still have it... This is the second time today that I randomly read about Keratosis Pilaris (not I even know what it's called!) so maybe it's a sign I should take care of it before the big day. Thanks for the advice all =)

I guess I have a "slight" case on my thighs, but always brushed it off as randome ingrown hairs (maybe mines something else though?) they aren't usually red, and get worse when I shave (I usually only shave from knee down, thighs don't grow that much and are blonde)

But FH has this on his butt. I had no clue what it was though. I thought maybe just a lot of pimples. I never inspected it closely cause...well because! But now that I've look this up, I think it's what he has.
