I would like to get her a gift to show my apperciation and let her know that i think for a first year teacher she is doing wonderfully.

We got our daughters teachers Starbucks gift cards.

I posted this on my FB a week or so ago, and all my teacher friends said gift cards. If you want to do something a little more beyond, maybe a gift card with a hot cocoa set or something?

I'm getting smell goods (lotions, body washes etc.) and candles. Can't go wrong with that.

So my daughter is 5 but she has talked about making a gift basket with her teachers favorite foods/snacks, is that something a teacher might like or no?

Kay, as a teacher, I think that is an adorable idea. It will mean even more to the teacher because it is an idea that is coming from your daughter. I think Lizz's idea about gift cards is wonderful as well. Gift cards are always a very easy and safe gift that will always be appreciated.

Not to bash Candice's ideas, but I would stay way from lotion stuff and candles. As far as the lotion stuff, everyone prefers different brands and scents and some people are very particular about it. Personally every single random lotion/body wash that I have ever received as a gift has gone unused. As a teacher, I dread candle gifts, as any scented candles give me an immediate headache (even unlit), and they are such a generic teacher gift that they are unavoidable.

Thank you MrsO. Nice to get advice from someone who is a teacher. Very helpful, i was afraid of the scented items because i know some people like certain smells and not others. I think we will do the gift basket idea. Thank you

Another teacher here- I'd be soooo happy to get gift cards or a gift basket. Also, a lot of my students get me costume jewelry. They know my favorite colors and animal, and I can wear it all year. They love to see me wearing it later in the year. Smiley smile

I saw the CUTEST teacher gift idea on Pinterest.. hopefully I pinned it! I can't get it for you right now since I'm working, but you can browse around and see if it's there or if there is any other inspiration...

I think it would either be under "Things That Make Me Go Oooooh!", "Planning" or "Our Very Near Future"

My mom is a kindergarten teacher and always prefers classroom supplies over anything else. She always ends up with so many presents that she doesn't know what to do with, but she spends so much money on classroom supplies! She loves gift cards to stores where she can buy stuff for the classroom or actual supplies!

A Walmart or Target gift card would be awesome. As a special area teacher (counselor, actually), they take a collection and give us a walmart card. I love it! Also, cute thank you/notecards would be nice. It saves the teacher from having to buy them!

As a former teacher, I always enjoined just a lovely card with a letter from the child. I gave up teaching many moons ago and I still have all of my letters/TY cards. Baked goods or candy were also my favorites.

Another thing I cherish is a tote bag that had every students handprint on it. My homeroom mother organized it. She somehow did it during lunch in the cafeteria. It has each child's handprint and their name.

I couldn't agree more with Mrs. O. Everything is appreciated, however, I would avoid scents. I can honestly say I have never used anything either. I would give them to my nieces.

Another thing to avoid is a Christmas ornament or decoration.
