NWR: hair falling out!!

Bride2B, on September 24, 2017 at 11:42 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 20

I've noticed that in the last 6 weeks or so my hair seems to be shedding a lot, and in the last week A LOT is coming out on the brush. I started working in a very stressful job around late April where I don't have time to eat during the day, so I had lost about 6 lbs since then. Then 3 weeks ago, I had major surgery where my mouth is banded shut and I'm on a liquid diet for a few more weeks. Since the surgery I've lost about 10 lbs. Is this normal to have what seems to be excessive hair loss? It could be due to the stress, lack of nutrition, and/or surgical related stuff...and the beginning stages of wedding planning on top of that (I got engaged a couple days before surgery). I was brushing my hair out tonight and clumps were coming out and I freaked out so bad that i got very light headed and had to sit on the ground before I passed out. Does anyone have experience with this? As for the job..FH just moved and I'm applying for new ones now to join him, so that should help a lot.

This was happening to my best friend before she got married, but it did slow down after a while! It also happened to me but was related to seborrheic dermatitis, I believe, and it was when I was barely sleeping.

I've been experiencing the same thing for about 2 years now. I've been told by a few different doctors that normal day to day stress won't cause hair loss, but the stress of say having a child or extreme weight loss/gain will. Also, if you're taking medication, hair loss could be a side effect. Follow up with your doctor, they'd know best.

If you having to do a liquid diet make sure it is giving you the right supplements. Talk to your doctor.

If you can figure out a way to get biotin into your liquid that might help . It helps your hair and nails grow .

A good friend of mine lost about half of her hair about 3 months after she had pneumonia. The doctor said it's common for major hair loss after a major illness or traumatic event. However, please see a doctor. They know better than the internet. Smiley smile

Thanks y'all. I think I just had a freakout moment, I'm sure I'll be okay. I have a followup with my surgeon in about 2 weeks which I'll discuss if it's still an issue. Smiley smile I was eating a little better when my mom and FH were here to prompt me, but I've been basically chilling at home alone the last week. Thanks again ladies Smiley smile

Feel better soon! My hair falls out when I am stressed due to a hormonal condition. Talk to a doctor. My issue is relatively well managed through birth control, Biotin, and TRYING to not get stressed (yoga and meditation are my friends) but you really should speak to a doctor to see what could be causing yours. It may just be stress, but you don't want to leave anything up to chance when it comes to your health. I hope your recovery from your surgery goes smoothly and quickly.

I would definitely call your doctor. It could be a side effect of a medication you're on.

Are you on BC and if so, did they also give you antibiotics? antibiotics could be cancelling out your BC and when BC stops working a lot of people lose hair. Odd, but might be it

Even FH commented on my recent hair loss. Definitely stress. FH and I are moving after the wedding and, like you, I will be looking for a new job

Also, if you are on a liquid diet, please make sure that it has enough protein. Unless directed differently by your MD, ideally you should have at least 15 grams of protein per 8-ounce serving of your liquid drink. Not having enough protein can cause all different kinds of issues that people do not realize.

If you are malnourished, the last place nutrients go to is your hair and nails. They can tell a lot about your health status. Your hair could be falling out due to the malnourishment combined with the intense stress and surgery. If you don't mind me asking, are you on any medications? Some may cause hair loss

Try to take care of yourself. I understand not getting to eat (I work 12 hour shifts without any breaks) but carry small snacks with you. Drink protein shakes to get at least something during the day. Try destressing after work even for just a few minutes

Could be the combo of everything you're going through right now, but I'd run it past your doctor, especially with the lightheadedness and dizziness. Feel better soon!

You sound like me except that I haven't had surgery. I don't eat when I'm stressed, and I've been stressed all the time because of a toxic work environment for the past year. The stress of the surgery in addition to your job and other life changes may just be manifesting physically. My hair thinned significantly - and it is ugly, frizzy, and dry - but the shedding seems to be slowing down now that I've been actively eating better and have a plan to leave my job. Better nutrition should help you, but you absolutely need to talk to your doctor in your case with the recent surgery.

Take vitamins and be sure to do as much as possible to ease your stress. Stress is a huge part in hair loss. If this continues I would definitely visit your doctor.

You should definitely go see a doctor I mean I am a hairstylist and on average you can loose 400-1,000 strands a day and obviously stress will do that but your symptoms along with it sounds like it could be something more than just stress. Take care of yourself and listen to your body.
