NWR: Have no kids but I want to do Christmas cards this year.

rusticbride, on September 12, 2014 at 1:49 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 25

.... does anyone do those cute, Shutterfly XMAS cards even though they don't have kids? We have fur-babies. Does that count? Shutterfly's got a special right now until Tuesday for 10 free cards, and I know there are some old folks who are disappointed that they haven't seen pictures from the wedding yet. They don't have FB... so they haven't seen anything, so I was thinking about including wedding pictures on the cards, and sending to mostly the older folks/those who we couldn't invite to the wedding.

Thoughts? I just don't want to look weird.... LOL. All of the promo pics of each card are of families with parents and kids lol

I think it's a nice idea - you don't need kids to send a Christmas card!

I've seen people do these even without kids or pets for that matter. Its always nice to get pictures of people especially from something like a wedding.

We're doing one! i just made them, from a photo at my company party last year. same place im doing wedding invites, inviteshop.com we like to be fun and not formal/stuffy so this is the plan. i also saw it as a good chance to get addresses for the wedding invites early!!!

@Ashley, I mean, I've sent the greeting card type cards of just a generic picture on the front that was holiday related (the ones you can get in a box from Wal-Mart and write a message inside, etc.), but I haven't ever sent out cards with pics of DH and I alone...

I just didn't want us to look weird, but at least with wedding pictures, it may make sense to some people.. almost like a wedding announcement/Christmas card. They're free.. SO...

We have done this. The first Christmas was up sitting on Santa's lap from a mall picture and then another with my dog in a Santa suit. Just because you don't have kids doesn't mean you can't wish people a happy Christmas Smiley smile

DOOO ITTTT!!!! I LOVE seeing furbabies! My sister and BIL send a christmas card every year since they got married with their two dogs on them! They got married in 2008. That's the only card (postcard) that I keep. But I also have a near unhealthy obsession with animals. I just can't get enough!

    Yay... lol.

I'm glad people are saying it's fine.

They have a crap ton of options like 3/4 folds, and then tri-folds, and then your regular front/back. Holy crap.

I think I'm just going to look at the front and back ones... not trying to do nuts.. LOL.

PS: The code you can use until Tuesday at Shutterfly is SNEAKPEEK. That's 10 free cards. All you pay is shipping and mine came out to be about $6.

@Andi Your holiday card is adorable and hilarious! Love it!

And you can totally send a Christmas card without having kids. People do it all the time. Smiley smile

Do it. Last year my fh and I sent out Christmas cards with just the two of us. I too had some free ones so I said why not. We used pictures from the vacation we got engaged on, it was like a Christmas engagement announcement. It would work great for you to do your wedding photos in a similar way, Christmas wedding announcement. Shutterfly actually has templates specifically for that.

Yes, great idea! Photo cards aren't just for people with kids. I love receiving them, as opposed to a plain card that winds up in the recycling bin.

You got married this year. It's TOTALLY acceptable! We sent out save-the-date-Christmas-cards last year, and we will definitely do a wedding Christmas one this year. Unfortunately, this may be the last year you can get away with putting your picture on a card without kids.

@GameCox, haha, we already have people asking about kids. I'm sure if I send out a card that just has us and our dogs next year TOO.. it'll be like a slap in the face to these people, haha!

This year, use a wedding picture. Next year, use a picture with the dogs. I'm not a pet person, so I don't get that "these are our children" thing, but most people do. Totally do it. Who gives a shit what other people don't like?

If you ever do want to announce a pregnancy around Christmas, there's another an excuse. Last year, my cousin's card said "We're expecting....you to have a great Christmas season!" It had a picture of them and the dogs. Another one said "First Comes Love (picture of them engaged), Then Comes Marriage (picture from their wedding day) Then Comes...(Picture of him kissing her stomach under the mistletoe)"

FH's cousin and his wife sent them out last year with one with their cat and it was pretty cute. FH keeps bugging me to do it, but I didn't grow up with a "Christmas Card Type" family and we never sent them out, he did though. We may start now that we do have all the addresses of the family just for the fun of it

You absolutely can send some out! I honestly prefer photo cards than regular cards. FH and I always send some out ever year! It's kind of a tradition now. We bring Santa hats whenever we go on vacation and take the pictures there. One year we were in the Bahamas, last year we were at the Grand Canyon. Do it up!!

We sent one out last year. We'll probably do the same this year. We don't have kids but will be getting a dog after we get married. Smiley smile

Yes yes yes do it! If I were a friend/family member of yours I would LOOOOVE getting a photo christmas card with your fur-babies in it! I think most people feel that way, they'll probably just be happy to hear from you, I never thought you could only do them if you had kids

    ETA: spelling. grr.
