NWR: How did you tell your husband/fiancee you were pregnant?

Amy, on April 25, 2012 at 12:55 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 21

We are still struggling to get pregnant, but about this time each month I tend to let myself wonder how I would tell my husband that we are pregnant. I purchased a gift months ago that I was planning on giving him - subtle enough to not be overtly obvious but enough that he could make the link. But, w/mothers day coming up....I also thought that I could take him to my favorite jeweler and when he asks why we are there say "So you can buy me a mothers day present." Curious how all the mothers announced it!

I came home with a bucket of chicken (his favorite food), a six pack of blue moon (his favorite beer), a cd he's been wanting and a bouquet of yellow roses..

He first noticed the chicken.. he lit up. Smiley smile Then he saw the beer and said "CHICKEN AND BEER?! what's wrong?"

I told him nothing.. then he asked me how my day went and I told him he may want to stop playing his game.. I asked him, "remember how I haven't been feeling well lately?" and said yes.. I then told him that I took a test, and it came back positive. I told him I took another test, and it came back positive and so then that morning, instead of going to work, I went to the doctor and it came back positive.. he stared off for a looooong time.. I started crying because I was scared what he would say (we weren't even engaged yet) and then he looked at me and said "Your father is going to kill me." Smiley smile

BTW, I LOVE your idea! Smiley smile but I'd follow it up with something for him. (the chicken was for his pleasure, the beer was to help him calm down.. the flowers, in all reality, were really for myself Smiley smile haha

I am not pregnant nor have I ever been but I plan to send him flowers.

He loves flowers but would probably hate receving them but My mom sent my dad flowers at work and I've wanted to do that.

It took them over a year of trying and trying to finally get pregnant. When My mom left the drs. office, she had flowers sent to my dad and both sets of grandparents.

TO my dad the flowers said, "Congratulations Daddy!" and to my grandparents, they said, "Congratulations, Grandma and Grandpa!"

I have been hearing this story my whole life so it's what I want to do.

If we decided to have kids then I wouldn't necessarily know before he did..we'd take the test together (well wait for the results together lol) from a drugstore, go to the doctor together, etc. I'd want us to share both finding out and being happy and/or disappointed together depending. To me I'd feel a bit dishonest sneaking off to take a test by myself without him knowing..although I do think those stories are cute!

I saw an idea on pinterest that was cute ... not for him but it would be for family .. it was a jar of Prego spaghetti sauce and they made a note and stuck it above prego so that it read "We're Prego!"

He was with me each time I found out (my ex) I've got two girls and a son, when I found out it was a boy, I stopped on my way home and bought enough boy toys (t-ball stand, bat & ball, footballs, basketballs, play lawnmowers & tools, ect, ect!) to fill the living room and had the video camera on a tripod recording him as he came in and realized what it meant, it was a great day!

My wife and I took each and every test together until we hit a positive...she is due June 10th. However you ending up telling your partner...it will be amazing because it will be coming from you!

This is a neat post idea Amy O. Smiley smile I've attempted to think of a few ways how to tell him but haven't came up with anything yet. Quite honestly I think if I got a positive I'd be so excited and in tears I don't think I would be able to hold it in.

I have thought of how to tell our parents/grandparents. We'd get a nice sized square box (white) with a white ribbon. I'm hoping we get a positive soon so our families would assume the boxes have their copy of our wedding album in it. Instead, we would have a framed portrait of the ultrasound and underneath that would be a "World's Best Grandma/Grandpa/Aunt/Etc."

A FB friend made her FB announcement with a cute status. She had a picture of a huge cinnabon in the oven. The caption said "Ready around: November 3, 2012. Bun #3" This will be her 3rd child. Smiley smile

This website has some really creative and sweet ideas on how to share the exciting news. http://www.babyzone.com/pregnancy/announcing-pregnancy_191234

I love the idea of #1 : Peas in a Pod

"I told my husband we were pregnant by having him hold out his hand. I placed a dried pea in it and said, "Want to hear something amazing? This is how small your baby is right now." His face went from confusion to joy and tears. It was wonderful. We can't wait to tell our families."—Karen

Hubby and I was doing it on purpose (trying to get pregnant). And If he just so much as look at me, I'm prego....So he bought the test, I went in the bathroom took it and came back to the living room. And he said well? And I said, I'm too scared to look at the results, so he went in the bathroom and said, "Yeppers!!"

I always wanted to find out around father's day so I could buy him a father's day card to tell him. In reality it will probably be finding a way to tell our parents that will be fun because he'll probably be with me when we find out. I can't wait for that day Smiley laugh
