NWR - Just pulled out a chunk of my molar!

Nik_McAwesomepants, on October 18, 2010 at 2:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 10

I was chewing some gum and felt it sticking to my right molar (second from the back, 3rd from wisdom tooth). Then I started feeling like this grit almost and figured it was the stupid mint crystals in the gum stuck in my tooth. So I start trying to floss it out with my thumb nail and out comes the cusp of my tooth :-(

Thank God I have dental insurance. I made an appointment for tomorrow morning. Hopefully they'll just fill it in and it won't need a crown. I must admit, I haven't been to the dentist in YEARS (since right before I went off to college so 2006). The last time I went I found out I have 4 impacted wisdom teeth but I had a full time retail job and couldn't afford to not be able to speak for a week :-( Now I wish I would've taken better care of my teeth :-(

It doesn't hurt but it does feel really weird :-\

I have been there! Except I did it with Raisin Bran and swallowed a whole chunk. GAG! I have dentist visits every 6 months because of permament (sp?) retainers. Take better care of them teeth missy! Was it a reconstructed molar or your ful, real deal? Mine was the full, real deal, haven't had trouble with my reconstructed tooth though.

It was actually my left molar and it's the real deal baby. I've never had any kind of tooth problems before so I'm really freaked out :-(

Yikes, I'm sorry to hear that. I have chipped a tooth before on lollypop, not fun! The dentist did a filling and now I'm just careful what I bite with my front tooth. But 4 years without going to the dentist is a long time, I hope your teeth are okay. Good luck tomorrow!

I had all four impacted wisdom teeth pulled last January, with only Novacaine (sp?) and it wasn't so bad. My face was heavily swollen for about a day, mildly swollen for three or four more, and only a little sore after the first 12 hours. I took extra strength tylenol for two nights and then no more painkillers.

Since then, I've had fewer headaches and fewer toothaches, with the added bonus of a slightly less crooked smile Smiley smile

For the longest it was the lack of insurance that kept me away. Now I have to excuse :-)

Even with insurance, my dental work is still super expensive. Besides going for normal cleanings and such, dental visits have to be worked into my budget wayy in advance. LOL

@Starsteph84- I hear you, dental work can add up quickly. Usually I wait until I get the bill to pay.

I did the same thing with a stoopid potato chip, believe it or not. It was like the whole top layer of my molar just popped off. I actually thought it must have been a big filling that had popped off, but no, the whole top of my tooth. Thankfully my dentist was able to just put in a really big filling, I hope that you are lucky as well. It has made me really nervous about ever just chomping down on anything, for sure.
