NWR-Maybe, but...Any big girls ever had a brazillian wax?

Mrs. NewBeginnings, on March 2, 2013 at 8:08 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 18

So, I am not ashamed to say I am a plus size lady. I've always had a self esteem problem and been really shy about my body, even when I was slimmer. Took me awhile to even be comfortable around my husband. So, I've never been waxed before, other than my eyebrows. But now that I'm losing weight at such a fast pace, I am feeling really good about my body. My cousin and I decided that once we are slim enough, we'll be getting our bellys pierced together and we also want to get a brazillian. Well, I want one before the wedding, but I want to try it out now, like at the end of this month, to make sure it will be okay. So, have any other plus sized ladies ever had a brazillan before? How was your experience? Were you comfortable?

I'm not plus size but i have always been extrememly uncomfortable with thought of having some stranger down in my area lol. But i ended up starting a few years ago. I felt extremely awkward at first but the 2nd time i went in i found an amazing lady to do it for me and she made me feel very comfortable, and kinda became like a friend i would go visit every month. it will be uncomfortable at first, unless you just dont get nervous i guess. As long as your beautician is professional she will make you feel very comfortable. They have seen everything before and some even wax men so they won't be judging or anything. Just relax and be aware the 1st time will be painful but you'll end up gaining a tolerance and get used to it. It is extremely worth it and gets better the more you do it.

I'm plus-sized, and I love my Brazilians! I haven't done it with a stranger, but FH does it for me (too TMI?). Now I can't live without them!

Lol, Jen! Too funny. But thanks for sharing. M2H, I'm about to buy aGroupon for a Paul Mitchell salon that I also just bought a Groupon for Mani/pedis yesterday (2 for $60, yay!) I'll be getting another 2 one (2 for $45) so I think I'll be using it at the end of this month and then again towards the end of April (a week before the wedding). Thanks!

I don't think at first anyone is comfortable going for it, but I found a great girl that didn't make me feel awkward at all! I would DEFINITELY get one done prior to the wedding though in case you have some sort of reaction. I've gone to European Wax Center (which is a chain so there may be one near you) and I liked it so much better than the other place I had gone. Hurt a lot less and they were very clean.

    But....what I really wanna know...

How are you losing all this weight? I am on the smaller side, but definitely NOT skinny and I have been trying to lose 15lbs forever and a day!!!

I love the waxes! As long as you relax it's not that bad. However, when they tell you to turn over and hold your cheeks, thats a whole other story....lol OUCH! Afterwards, everything looks nice and neat!

I worked at a spa for about 5 years and I can tell you that girls of all shapes, sizes, and body types came in to get waxed. The first time is uncomfortable for everyone so don't worry about that. The girls who worked in the spa always used to tell me that they've seen everything there is to see so there's no need to panic! Smiley smile

Never been waxed, except for my eyebrows. Do not think I can gert the strength to let a complete stranger go down there and wax my area. I am so sensitive that i might wet myself. Sorry but you can keep that one. I've been a big girl most of my life and can't phathom to get waxed but have considered.

How long before the wedding do you recommend getting it done so your not "sore or sensitive" on in lingerie

It's a weird experience for everyone, regardless of the size. But I wouldn't have it any other way any more :-) You get used to it. That's one thing though where reviews are critical and you want somebody who knows what she's doing. Also, sugaring is MUCH better than waxing if they're offering it.

I'm never sore/sensitive for more than a few hours. But definitely try it a while before the wedding to see how you will react. Take a couple of ibuprofens before, don't drink too much coffee, and make sure the hair is appropriate length (not too long or too short).

    What is appropriate length?

About 1/4 to 1/2". If it's shorter than 1/4, the wax can't grab onto it. If it's longer than 1/2" max, it gets really messy and it gets really painful.

Mrs. S. won't they trim it first though?

I am getting to the size that it's really awkward for me to shave or do anything myself down there. I really want to get at least a bikini wax first. Been trying to work up the nerve for awhile.

Better salons do. Others just bitch about it :-)

ETA: I also prefer to spend as little time there as possible, so I trim it myself.

Maybe TMI, but I trim and shave down there now so hopefully it won't be to bad. @Glam, hubby and I have been on a break for two weeks with our workouts, but in November, ee started intense workouts 5-6 times a wrek (P90X, high intensity walking/jogging, etc.) & we also changed our eating lifestyle. We eat turkey/chicken products (ground turkey & sausage instead of beef), upped our water intake, eating healthier snacks, and keeping a food diary (myfitnesspal.com really helps). I've lost 30 pounds and he's lost 40. We are renewing our vows for our 8th anniversary which symbolizes new beginnings and our healthier lifestyle is apart of that.
