NWR -- Meal Replacement/ Protein Shakes

Sara, on September 15, 2016 at 10:19 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 21

Hi Everyone!

I am looking for a good meal replacement/ protein shake. I'm looking for something to replace breakfast to help me lose weight and tone up some areas. Not looking for anything drastic or super expensive. Anyone have a certain brand or kind that has worked for them?

I'm looking into Idealshake but I know nothing about this stuff and whether its healthy or not.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have used Advocare shakes for several years. I really like them.

Vega One is the best! High protein, low calorie, and plenty of nutrients. It's like your breakfast and multivitamin all in one.

I don't generally use meal replacements, but I love quest bars to between snacks and every once in a while, for breakfast on the go! High protein, low carb.

Shakeology is my absolute favorite, although it is not cheap. I also second Quest bars! They are super filling and actually taste pretty good. Another suggestion I have would be a nutribullet. You can use it to make your own smoothies!

Weights & Inches - high protein, low carbs. I get them from a local weight loss management clinic run by a bariatric surgeon. They can also be ordered online. www.cfwls.com

@Laine My FSIL is a beachbody coach so I hear about shakeology constantly lol. I have tried the chocolate one and it was pretty good but I had to add some PB2 before i could drink it al it got boring to me.

@TinyBride I have been reading labels and researching online like a madwoman lol There are just so many options and its hard to figure out what would work best for me without spending a fortune and trying everything

I loved shakeology but it was too expensive!

I have been using idealshake and i think it;s pretty similar in taste to shakeology.

however, like O&S said, you shouldn't really skip meals. its for the workouts. so I usually have my shake after my workout (when I most want a snack) so that I won't eat a random snack and it keeps me full-ish until my FH gets home and we have dinner.

I love the Syntex Nectar protein powder. I don't use it as a meal replacement, but as a protein supplement. They have alot of fruity flavors that pretty much taste like koolaid.

I love the peach or the fuzzy navel mixed into cottage cheese. SO tasty and a great boost in the morning. Keeps me full until lunch.

I don't use meal replacement shakes but I do make a smoothie for breakfast most mornings with almond milk, dry oatmeal, frozen fruit (usually 1/2 banana and 2-3 strawberries) collagen peptides, and cinnamon.

When I was losing weight I used Secure. You can buy it on HSN.com and I absolutely loved it. I didn't find the price unreasonable and I lost 50 pounds while using the shake. (Not saying the shake made me lose weight! I did it through a lot of hard work). But I liked that this shake did not have a grainy taste I found with shakeology. I also didn't drink it plain, I used frozen strawberries, bananas, and ice to make a great smoothie!

I have been using Kachava shakes! They are kind of expensive, but I am running out of options of foods I can stomach in the morning (eggs have been making me ungodly sick...). The chocolate tastes great! And the shakes are plant based, if you are into that. I don't care either way, but it tastes yummy with cashew milk!

I use casein with Greek yogurt and powdered peanut butter. It's like 40g of protein and I eat it for breakfast after I work out.

    Skip the shakes.

Start lifting weights and download an app like MyFitnessPal to track your food intake.

If you need to substitute real food, Quest bars are great, and Premier Protein shakes from Costco are a good option too. Watch the calorie content of "meal replacements". Some of them can have upwards of 300 calories- You could have egg, cheese, meat of choice on english muffin for that amount instead!

My go-to protein shake is Vega (clean protein). 25g protein, 1g sugar, 3g carbs per serving and it's dairy free!

I'm a vega one lover. I just got the chocolate and it's divine. I usually have it as a snack and it helps me meet my macros for the day. I eat 6 times a day though, small meals and I'm on a diabetic diet for GD. It's one of the all in one shakes that are pregnancy safe. My favorite combo so far, chocolate vega one, carb master milk or vanilla unsweet almond milk, greek vanilla yogurt, 1 tb of natural pb (just peanuts and salt) and ice. Sooooooooooooooo good. And the macros are unbelievable.

I drink premier protein shakes. you can make smoothies with them just add some frozen fruit and ice and you're good to go. Or just drink them by themselves. I keep them in the fridge at work in case hunger strikes at an odd time of the day.
