NWR: Merging Cell Phone Plans? (Verizon specifically)

FilleNouvelle, on August 12, 2017 at 1:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17

So FH and I each have our own Verizon accounts and have just always paid them separately. We recently realized his plan is slightly different from mine and actually would give me a better deal. So we want to transfer my phone (keeping the same number and everything) over to his plan to make it cheaper.

Has anyone ever done this? Is it a pain?

Keeping your number shouldn't be an issue. I was leaving an existing Verizon plan, and starting a new Verizon plan with FH. I was still on my parent's plan, so they had to authorize dropping my line.

The only place where you might have issues is if you still owe on your device. You can always go in and ask them.

It's easy! Just go to the Verizon store and they'll take care of it. We added H to mine like 6 months into our relationship. He was on a horrible cell phone plan.

The only thing we MIGHT merge after marriage is car insurance. We will have our own cell phone plans due to our kids and data use. We will have our own bank accounts due to kids.

I don't want to ask to spend $150 on my kid, or vice versa.

And if I wanna buy FH something ever-he won't be able to see me buy it on bank account or know how much I paid

You just have to call Verizon and authorize your line to be moved to his account. Then he has 15 days to pick it up, usually this could be done through a link in his email that he'll get once you authorize it.

A store could help you as well. But you have to make sure it's a corporate or "direct" location. Any store that says authorized retailer on it won't be able to do it. And honestly they cause more problems anyway if you need any assistance.

It absolutely works. And you can do it now, without waiting for the wedding. I was at one point on a plan with my son, his father, and my wife. They don't really care about the relationships.

We did this many years ago. Used "my" plan because I get a military discount at AT&T. Never had a lick of trouble with it. Our plan has both of us and both of his daughters, although we will drop the eldest daughter after the wedding.

We had to call, hey wouldn't do it in store.

I left my family plan, and FH's brother 's wife left hers too. And the four of us are on the plan together now. It took a few visits to Verizon, and a few phone calls, but we're all set and all saving a little money now.

We did it about 6months into dating. We went to Verizon & added me to his plan & cancelled mine. I think my 2 year agreement was up & my number stayed the same

Depending on the plan and if it's still in use or available it's cool. If that plan doesn't exist anymore you wouldn't be able to get it.

My FH & I just merged our plan with Verizon & it's only more expensive because FH wanted unlimited data for some reason. But it was easy & the major issue we ran into was that my phone would not send text messages besides iMessage. This went on for 4 days until I went to Verizon & they couldn't figure it out & sent me a new phone. Received it & it was still happening & finally called Verizon IT who figured out the person who merged our accounts blocked my text messages. I didn't even need the new phone but I didn't mind since mine was pretty dirty.

Other than that it was pretty easy, I paid off the rest of my phone before switching to his to keep my phone price pretty low

I did that at us cellular. It's not hard. You just go in and tell them and sign some papers.

Just call Customer Service. I work for Verizon. It's called Transfer of Service. They move the lines from (a) to (b). Credit can be an issue if you still owe on your device, but it is really easy!

We did this. We just went into a Verizon store and said we wanted to combine them, they did and it took like 20 minutes. Make sure you go to an actual Verizon store not an authorized retailer.

I switched from AT&T to my husband's Vorizon plan. We just went into Best Buy and did it with no issues. I got to keep my number.

I have three people on my Verizon plan (myself and two children) and pay $220 a month for Unlimited data. All of our devices are paid off.

My boyfriend (whom I moved in with 6 months ago) has 6 people (children, parents and brother) and pays $340 a month. It seems to make sense to merge together so we are only paying one plan fee plus each line - instead of $550 per month, we would pay under $400. But how do you split bill when there are upgrades and device charges involved? Anyone done this before and have advice? Simpler to keep separate?
