NWR: My shoulders are super sore. Masseuse says I'm a disaster.

So I was at a bach party on Sautrday at a spa. I got a massage for the first time. The masseuse said she'd never dealt with shoulders like mine. So I was at a bach party on Sautrday at a spa. I got a massage for the first time. The masseuse said she'd never dealt with shoulders like mine. That it takes years and years of stress and tension to get that many knots (she couldn't even begin to get them out).

The thing is, I'm a naturally tense person. I grit and grind my teeth. I tense my muscles just sitting around. Even during the massage, she kept having to tell me to relax and stop tensing and I didn't even realize I was.

Ever since, my shoulders have been crazy sore. It's making me aware of just how much I tense up over the course of the day. Is there anything I can do for this? All the masseuse had was "try to relax more".

Thank you thank you for all the tips ladies and for OP asking. My masseuse said she could give me a massage everyday for months and not totally relieve all the knots. Can we say stressball?! Now I stretch more and get massages and chiro alignments twice a month. Starting to exercise tooo which will help. It's sad that so many of us carry that much stress! Eta: the soreness is normal after a deep tissue, just drink lots and lots of water as it gets the toxins out and less sore.

Get a back buddy! It looks like an oddly shaped torture device but it's pretty good at rubbing out knots.

My chiropractor put me on 500 mg Magnesium daily. I take an extra dose on days I have any strenuous activity. Your muscles need potassium to contract and magnesium to relax. After getting clearance from your doctor, this is something you can try.

I have 17 degrees of scoliosis in my T-spine. Which means my back muscles are constantly fighting to straighten a spine that won't. I have trigger points that wouldn't release even with weekly hour long massages for a solid year. When they are really bad, I can't lift my arms. The magnesium really helps. But DO NOT start it without a doctor's permission/knowledge.

My sister has major tension issues. It's a combination of stress tensing and poor posture. She evntually had to see a chiropractor for neck pain and the constant strain has become arthritus. Her neck scans were compared to a 70 year olds. Try getting frequent massages and yoga.

You all are so awesome. Thanks for all the advice. It really brought to light that this is more than just aching shoulders. Time to work towards a healthier life style and less stress.

Ice is your best friend. Heat can bring more inflammation. Also check into a chiropractor in your neighborhood as well!
