NWR: need gift ideas for a co-worker who just had a baby boy???

Denise, on September 21, 2013 at 8:37 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

A girl I work with just had a baby boy. Her and I both work in the medical field now and prior to that we worked in food & beverage together. We see each other in passing a couple times a month. We're not that close but she is just the sweetest person & I'm so happy she found her happily ever after and has started a family. I know she had two big baby showers so I'm not sure what to get that she won't already have. Any suggestions for a small gift I could give to her would be so helpful.

Books, diapers/wipes (maybe a bigger size than newborn), or maybe a gift card to a spa day...most new mothers are just excited to get a shower.

Clothing and books. When I buy clothing I always buy it a few sizes bigger so the child can grow into it.

If she already had 2 big showers As a mother, I would get her something for her like a gift card to a spa like GameCox suggested. Us moms often forget to take time out for ourselves.

I always love making baskets for people. you can do it fairly cheap too. the dollar store is honestly a great place to start. get a small clothes basket...put in a pack of kids' clothes hangers, tiny trash bags for diapers, a pack of pacifiers (you can never have too many), bubble bath, baby lotion, a pack of bibs, wash cloths, and a pack of receiving blankets. i make this up for baby showers all the time and i never spend over $20.

also...another good gift is you can make her a diaper wreath or cake. those are crafty and they are super inexpensive also. you can make it as small or big as you want it.

My go to is Robert Munschs book love you forever and clothing for 12 months, having had a baby, most people buy clothing for under 12 months so when you get to their first birthday you have no more stockpile lol

Diapers in the next size up from newborn and socks. Lots of socks. Babies always lose socks and you can never have too many. Onesies in the next size up from newborn are also a nice gift with it starting towards winter.

One of my favorite gift baskets to make for people I am not wild about spending a huge amount of money on is to get a small basket buy a package of socks, a package of onesies, a couple of cute drool bibs, then I usually make a soothing cd of light classical music and add a few tea bags (such as chamomile etc) and a really good chocolate bar. I take everything out of the packages (well except the chocolate) and arrange it nicely in a small basket and then there is something for the baby and something for momma. This usually costs me between $30 and $50.

Wipes. They'll need thousands so it's always a good gift.

A BIG BOX OF DIAPERS or BOXES OF DIAPERS. Believe me as a new mom, I'm so happy I got lots of diapers and wipes too!

Child proofing items, some plastic bags to put in the diaper bag for smelly diapers (they sell scented ones specifically for this), a cute night light for those late night diaper changes, baby wash clothes (you never can have too many of these), a mirror for the car to attach to the rear view mirror so they can see the baby in the backseat. These are some things that were really helpful for us that I would have never thought we would use.
