So I work full time at a hospital, a really big hospital that caters to the ghetto and uninsured. So I work full time at a hospital, a really big hospital that caters to the ghetto and uninsured. (Not saying uninsured= ghetto, I'm saying we take all the non insured AND ghetto thugs and nasty people that don't take care of themselves). I have the hospital insurance, trying never to use it because its so horrible and refuses to pay for most things for some reason. Anyway, I found out at 4 weeks that I was pregnant. And I have been trying since 5 weeks to see and doctor and start getting prenatal care (this is my second baby, my son is almost 9 now, and this will be FH's first baby). I FINALLY found somewhere outside the ghetto clinic that takes my insurance, and they said I can't see a doctor until I am 20 weeks along, even though I am an employee. I am 11 weeks now, and won't get to be seen until I am half way done with my pregnancy. All the calling and constant fighting with my insurance has sucked most of the joy and happiness out of my pregnancy. Smiley sad Sorry, just venting. Smiley sad

I can't believe you don't get to see a doctor til 20 weeks! That is absurd and wrong, there's so much you should have done by then!

Reading this sort of thing makes me awfully happy to be Canadian.

Hmm. Sounds like you have ghetto insurance to not get you out of receiving services from a ghetto clinic.

I'm being cynical, but you seem to have a fascination with the term "ghetto" and disliking people who don't "help themselves." In actuality, some people who are poor or financially unable do in fact seek out services to help "take care of themselves." Sounds like they're doing more than you are. All the complaining you're doing and what not...

Well, the people who cannot help themselves do have ghetto clinics that they receive services from, but there are also neighborhood based organizations that can provide you with assistance. You could also try Planned Parenthood or WIC. If you don't qualify for WIC, then I would suggest reaching out to neighborhood family planning organizations... like those individuals at ghetto clinics may do.

I can not help you with insurance or suggestions, but there are things you can do. Check out websites for suggestions. Buy OTC prenatal vitamins and take no other vitamins or supplements. Do not drink any caffeine or alcohol. About 1/2 hour walking a day five to six days a week.

If you can't get it to see that dr, maybe you could go to your reg dr to have your labs done. Unless you're rh neg I wouldn't worry too much about seeing a dr until 20 weeks. The only major thing you will be missing is the early ultrasound that will give you a good due date. Try not to stress yourself over it.

By ghetto I am not meaning any disrespect. With my first pregnancy, I had state insurance and went to the free clinic but it was world's better than this one. I'm trying to say it was rundown and dirty. There was pee all over the bathroom, toilet and floor, and dirty wipes in the sink and on the floor. There were literally 100 people there, and I'm not exaggerating since there were 8 little "pods" inside that had 10-15 people at each, to break up the registration part. It was dirty, overcrowded, and obviously not taken care of at all. Of course, the clinic is part of where I work, which is in a neighbor that dictates all employees need a security escort in and out of the building, even during the day. Because getting shot outside of the clinic isn't all that uncommon, even on a tuesday. I'm not trying to offend anybody. I have used a free clinic before (elsewhere), but isn't that why I'm supposed to have insurance now? To try to go elsewhere?

That's horrible... you would think someone working in a hospital would have good insurance. i hope everything goes well with your pregnancy and you and the baby are healthy.

It's been a struggle for me I'm 32 weeks and finally found a doctor that would see me. Unfortunately it sucked I'm still upset over the lack of empathy, and the condescending voice of the doctor I went to see. I left feeling incompetent, and overwhelmed. My first prenatal visit and nobody seemed concerned about me as a patient. Unfortunately I have nowhere else to go 😥 and what I thought would be a nice experience is just crushed.
