NWR: Peloton Bike

MrsBobby, on February 18, 2017 at 12:25 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 8

Does anyone have a peloton bike? They look amazing. Cheaper than Soul Cycle but the price tag is steep. If you have one, how do you like it?? Worth the money?

ETA: bought a different bike for dramatically cheaper. Got the iPad holder to use for the app! It comes on Tuesday. Hopefully it's a good compromise until I hit the lottery and buy a peloton!

I have been looking at them too. They look fab, but I think the key is whether you honestly think you're going to use it for biking instead of a clothes rack.....

I thought about one, but ultimately decided on a Wahoo Fitness Kickr. It's a smart trainer that you can mount your bike on. It can interact with training sites like Zwift, which is the one I use. You can ride virtually and the trainer reacts to the conditions on the ride...it gets harder going up hills and you can coast downhill, just as if you were riding outside. Was a little expensive but worth it to me since we're avid cyclists

I go to the Peloton Studio here in NY and I love the bike. The price tag is up there but with the livestream I think it's worth the investment as long as you utilize it frequently.

This topic is just what I needed! I really want to get a bike at home since I spend so much money on spin a year but I'm worried I won't like it as much as Fly Wheel

If you have access to a spin bike you can use the Peloton App (small monthly fee after a free trial) and do the work outs remotely. Good way to see if you actually like the work outs and cheaper than buying the bike!

My fiance and I mount our regular bikes on a Kinetic trainer. There is a free Kinetic app with a variety of workouts that can be exported to Strava. The only downside is that the app was developed for Apple first, then android; there have been a lot of kinks trying to use it on my non iPhone. But I'm glad to have it right here in the living room and have been using it a lot. If I'm going to watch TV, I might as well move my hiney while I do.

MGB, I have my little elliptical under my work desk during the day and in the living room at night. Moving hiney is the goal!

I'm with MGB - I worked at a bicycle store for over 5 years and for most people a trainer will do the trick. Purchase a rear-mounting cyclometer and it will give you all the metrics most people go for. You can even get cyclometers that link up with HR monitors. Much less expensive to do it that way (at least, that's how I roll).
