NWR - Question about a tattoo

Stephie, on September 22, 2015 at 3:40 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16

I do not have any tattoos currently. For my birthday, which is this week, I wanted to get my deceased father's signature on my wrist with a little blue bird flying over his name. Been wanting to get that tattoo for years now. My real question is, I also want to get a tattoo for both of my boys. I saw the two fingerprint that makes up a heart. Can that really be done? Or should I start looking at other tattoos for them? I believe I attached a picture for reference. TIA!

Where were you planning on getting this - it will have to be pretty big in order for the detail to come out and not just look like a blob.

I would say the fingerprint thing may be difficult. The lines are very complicated, thin, and close together. I'm sure they could do something resembling it, but it's not going to be exact.

I wouldn't do something as intricate as that. I have some tattoos that have very fine lines and after 12 years... They're not looking so hot LOL. It's almost embarrassing how UNhot they look now, but when they were done... They were beautiful! Time, age, weight gain (even in my arms and thighs), and sun has really done a number on them.

It can be done, but you want to make sure that your artist is AMAZING before attempting it.

I'd be worried about it not turning out perfectly.

But talk to your artist, and see what they think, or if they have suggestions.

Thank you for all of the info. Was thinking about getting it on the back on my neck? I'm just not loving too many tattoos to represent my kids. I definitely don't want it looking like just a blob. That's what I was worried about. Will keep looking!

Its an awesome idea, but I share the concern of details getting lost. AlexisM082 makes a great point about how they age too. I just had my first tattoo redone and some of the details had gotten lost over time. So, now my pretty fairy has a few strands of hair blowing across her once beautifully detailed face. Still cute, but with what you're looking for the details are extremely important. It would need to be rather large or forego the idea that they will still be accurate in 5-10 years.

I wouldn't suggest it, that is very detailed, and I would think most artists wouldn't even want to attempt it. A fingerprint is very intricate and would be very challenging to do, but two overlapping I think is really pushing it. I would be far too concerned about it looking like a blob to even attempt it.

This tattoo would have to be a full back piece to accommodate that intricate level of detail. I'm not even sure that would be large enough.

I'll be trying to come up with something else. I'm in no rush, I really want something special. Thank you everyone for the advice. Smiley smile

I agree with the others - it's gorgeous, but might be too difficult to pull off. I have a tattoo that's rather intricate (a small feather with detail) and it's kinda smudging with time (as skin ages).

I love the father's signature. My dad died 20 years ago and last month I got a tattoo of a message he wrote to my mom on the inside of my wrist - in his handwriting. I love it.

Honestly, great in theory, not great in reality. I have quite a few tattoos and they all have thicker lines. Something like little lines like this would definitely end up looking like a blob years down the line.

It might be a little complicated. I imagine it would look something like the image below actually done. You could do cute outlines of their favorite animals to represent them. I thought these were really sweet - see below (just thought the style might work!).

Also, I love what you are doing with your father's signature. That is very sweet, Stephie!
