NWR: Update on my brain tumor!

QueSeraSera, on October 2, 2017 at 8:34 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 80

Some of you may remember my post about finding a brain tumor (named Richard) a couple months ago!

Well I just had it taken out on the 21st! I am 1.5 weeks post-op and doing great!

Here's my update!

--

I've had Richard with me for 30 years.

What they thought was a pituitary macroadenoma turned out to be a Rathke's Cleft Cyst (developed in the womb / benign & won't grow back).

And due to its mucus-y texture, it left "a mess".

I had a cerebrospinal fluid leak and chemical meningitis.

Most people get to go home 2-3 days after this type of surgery.

NOT THIS GAL!

I was in the ICU from Thursday to Monday night-ish (I lost track of time) when I finally got a general room (on the same floor)

Post-op MRI and CT scans showed they got pretty much all of it out.

I even got physical therapy for 3 days :/

Finally got to go home around Wednesday.

I had awful headaches, dizziness, nausea, light & sound sensitivity, and no sense of smell or taste.

The nurses joked this was not a good way to crash diet for the wedding!

Everything is slowly getting better, except I'm still dizzy and it hurts to move my eyeballs (Richard was pressing on my optic nerves for so long).

And now there are better things to look forward to.

A life without Richard, and a new life with my FH, who has already proven he will stick with me through sickness & in health!

    60 days!

EDIT: Just wanted to add that due to the CSF leak, I had to have a lumbar drain. Getting that taken out & sutures put in hurt like a mofo. But the nurses said an epidural is easier so now I'm all set for childbirth! Ha ha!

Thanks so much for the love, everyone!

I know I missed a lot the last month or so with the school year starting (I'm a teacher) and this silly brain surgery, but you can bet I'll be on a lot in the upcoming month since I'll be off work recovering and wedding planning!!

Did you name it Richard so you could call it Dick? If so, that is amazing.

I'm sorry for all the struggles, but I'm so happy you are recovering and can focus on your future!

@Meg - lol! I did not actually, but my subconscious must've known this! It was just the first name that popped into my head!
