NWR: Weight Watchers vs MyFitnessPal vs 21 day fix

MrsBest2B, on June 21, 2015 at 6:32 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 35

I may have posted a similar post previously. It's an ongoing struggle.

A little history: I've tried them all, had minor success with them all. When I was younger, WW was great, but now I realize they don't teach you about actual healthy/clean/balanced eating like MFP or 21DF does. I've been following the healthier/cleaner eating of 21 day fix, not doing the work outs and still putting my calories in MFP just to see where I'm at. Because I cheat anyway (a major weight loss blocker obviously), I'm not successful (duh). I need accountability and I feel like weight watchers is best for that, but then again why pay money when I can use MFP for free? What are your thoughts? What's worked for you best why or why don't you like one over the other. 1 year left ladies and I need to shape up...literally.

I agree they provide different things IMO. 21 day fix helps you to get used to better choices. MFP and WW helps you count calories. 21 day fix is similar to clean eating or paleo too. What about MFP with clean eating 80% of the time and "better choices" 20% of the time to help negate your need to not be perfect.

I have used Sparkpeople & MFP for about 3 years now (MFP only for the last 2 years) and in that time have lost about 80 pounds and have kept most of it off. I did regain 20 last year but have lost 10 of that and working on losing the rest. When I stop logging is when I struggle. I don't have to buy anything special or pay a monthly membership. Seeing how much I am eating in black and white and the community aspect of MFP is what I like and helps hold me accountable.

ETA - I am now much more aware of what a portion size actually is even if I know that I'm over eating and cannot stop myself at the moment.

I think if you pay attention to everything on mfp you don't need weight watchers. However, a lot of people just base their mfp on calories. Which isn't good. Weight watchers doesn't count calories at all which I think is cool and I've always had great success when I've done it, even better than mfp.

21 day fix is 24 WW points a day. I'm currently on WW and the fun of tracking points is gone. I dropped 10 pounds in a month, need to drop 15 more. Thinking of switching to low carbing myself personally.

The difference between the others and 21 day fix is that 21day fix has workouts that the others don't. You aren't going to reach the results you want if you don't exercise too!

I've been using MFP but I'm good about keeping myself accountable. Just be honest with yourself about what you're eating...that's the only way apps like MFP can work for you. I definitely check myself because I know I'll have to log it. Having a buddy on the app will help too!

70% diet 30% working out. Diet is key. Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. You can do it.

Weight Watchers has changed my life. I started it for the first time about 2 years ago and lost 18 lbs. Of course, I got back into bad habits and gained it back, but then I started the program again and lost it again. I pay for weight watchers (even though I don't count my points as diligently as I used to) and I have changed the way I eat, and have kept the weight off even though I am not tracking points.

21 day fix is completely different from the others if you do it correctly. I strictly followed the meal plan for 21 days (and then went back to being bad) You are not supposed to eat ANYTHING bad when on 21 day fix. The others are basically counting calories. Exercise is important but if you eat a whole pizza you aren't gonna burn that off in a hour workout. Don't feel bad OP. I suck at diets too.

Thanks ladies! I always forget about Sparkpeople and I don't know why because about 10 years ago I lost 20lbs using that and WW consecutively. I loved the community aspect of it (Kind of like wedding wire!). I think once I got a smart phone their app kind of sucked and I found MFP to be more useful and have more foods. Another thing I hated about the WW app even. I do work out (sort of), I try to walk regularly. I have a fit bit and try to reach a goal of 10k steps per day, but I honestly don't do much more than that. Maybe I should try upping my steps goal, add in another activity or two and really be more diligent about what I'm stuffing my face with.

You don't need to pay for weight watchers. In a matter of one night I found all the information online. There are even spreadsheets to track food and points. I think the new ww points plus isn't so much of calorie tracking, it's more protein vs fat and carbs.

If you've done 21day fix you probably have a beachbody coach. If not, sign up for a free one on beachbody.com. Coach can get you into challenge & accountability groups to stay motivated. I love my groups...they help me stay motivated and on track every day. Even when we slip up we are super supportive. Contact your coach...seriously. That is the best part about beachbody programs, the personal support.

I think I've tried every diet out there over the years as I often fluctuate 20 lbs. 21 day fix is the next one I'm gonna give a shot as I've also been contemplating what new plan to try. What I've discovered is WW never works for me. It allows too many poor choices. I prefer a stricter diet of high protein and low carb. I fall off too quickly by eating too many carbs when that's an option like on WW and MFP. I think those work well if you're willing to incorporate exercise. I've had the best success with Atkins and Slim Genics(really expensive, really hard, but weight falls off fast!) And no need to exercise. I do plans where I drop weight through healthy eating and then afterwards I start working out as it helps me maintain weight as I start adding more calories and foods to my day. I'll keep you posted on how 21 day fix goes. I'm starting in July.

Mrjonesandme one of my best friends is a bb coach and is the one who got me into 21 day fix. That's how much I suck LOL. She's constantly bugging/motivating me and it's all well and good until FH brings home hot dogs and beer. I fold instantly. Food is my drug and exercise sucks. No really. I will do it, I have to!

I really really do love the food plans with 21 day fix. It's the only program that's every really taught you how to eat properly and I love that. I'm gonna nix weight watchers I think and just keep doing what I'm doing (but better?) this is my constant struggle!

MrsBest2B....maybe that is the problem. She's your best friend so of course you aren't going to feel that bad if you don't follow through with it when she's y our coach...she will love you no matter what and be there for you not matter what. If it were an outsider its harder to blow it off...at least in my opinion. I feel your pain though. I have PCOS and insulin resistance. Right after we got engaged I feel off the healthy eating bandwagon for about a month to 6 weeks. Because of the condition i gained 20 lbs in that time. Now getting back to it is a nightmare. I am working on it. Every monday I start working out...and by thursday and I give up again.

^^^ yup that's me! I do SO well and then all of a sudden I go on a junk food binge, feel horrible both physically and mentally and gain back what I'd lost the week before.

I've always loved WeightWatchers. FH does MyFitnessPal, but I don't like that it's 100% calorie based most of the time.

21 Day Fix would drive me nuts with shoving my food into containers all of the time. However, I guess it would keep you from eating out much.

I used MyFitnessPal since March 1st I have lost 20 lbs. Literally all I did was cut my calories and start walking. FH started using it Mid-May and he is already down 8lbs. I didn't stop eating things I liked, I just ate them in moderation. Now I don't even use the app, its just a habit.
