NWR: Weight Watchers vs MyFitnessPal vs 21 day fix

A little history: I've tried them all, had minor success with them all. When I was younger, WW was great, but now I realize they don't teach you about actual healthy/clean/balanced eating like MFP or 21DF does. I've been following the healthier/cleaner eating of 21 day fix, not doing the work outs and still putting my calories in MFP just to see where I'm at. Because I cheat anyway (a major weight loss blocker obviously), I'm not successful (duh). I need accountability and I feel like weight watchers is best for that, but then again why pay money when I can use MFP for free? What are your thoughts? What's worked for you best why or why don't you like one over the other. 1 year left ladies and I need to shape up...literally.

@MrsBest2B, something else I do that might be of help since you mentioned the smartphone. I have both the MFP app and the Map My Walk app on my phone. When I go out for my walk at night I turn on my location and open Map My Walk. The app will log my distance walked, pace and calories burned. When i end/finish my walk on the app it will import my calories burned into MFP so I do not have to do it manually. Only thing to keep in mind is that you have to be "hooked" up to wifi for the date to import to MFP. I will pause my walk when I get to the outside of my building and finish it when i get upstairs to my apartment.

My girlfriend dropped 20lbs in 2 months switching to the Paleo diet. Personally I'm a cheater, so the Paleo doesn't work work for me.

I've always loved WW. I pay for a month of the online and engorge with the information. Then I do it myself. I'm cheap, I know... But there are free calculators like below.Once you know what points you can have and how the current program works... You can do it yourself. I loved it because I could just look at food and know how many points etc.. Plus eating out I did a lot better. Another trick with eating out, I always request a box with my food. I take half home no matter what. Otherwise I will pick at my food until everyone else is done..

So, I've done all three. I am a lifetime member of Weight Watchers and I will always say that it is the best for learning to eat in moderation and what you should be eating. The 21 Day Fix is simple and you get results- I lost 10 lbs in 1 1/2 rounds but I could not for the life of me enjoy working out to a video and portioning out foods like that- especially forever. Right now I am using the MyFitnessPal app and I love it. I've lost about another 6 lbs so far along with kickboxing 3-5 times a week. I don't know my real weight loss because I am gaining muscle which I have never had before HAHA. It really depends what you can stick to. I love to eat so no matter which plan I do, it is a struggle for me.

I have struggled with my weight my entire life and the only thing that I have found that worked is My Fitness Pal. In reality, you just have to be aware of calories in and calories out. The app just helps you keep track of your intake. Work out and keep calories low. It is pretty simple. What is hard, is actually implementing it.

I also say myfitness pal, it does the calorie but it also gives you the nutrition facts and you can set the Salt and sugar intake to an amount that is correct for your goals. you can also adjust the daily calories if the default it too low ( for me it was my Trainer went in and adjusted everything). i say myfitnesspal and a good exercise program is the way to go. for me going all in too hard always sets me up to fail.

Christina "What is hard, is actually implementing it" SO TRUE. I lost over 20lbs on MFP two years ago, then went on a business trip to Chicago. Ate delicious food, came home and kept eating delicious food. Gained it all back plus 5lbs. *sigh* I wish I was one of those skinny people who can eat whatever they want. Food is delicious.

I've tried a little bit of everything but the only thing that's really worked for me was my fitbit and running daily. I put on a ton of weight when I was miserable at my last job and losing it took forever, until I got a fitbit. 15-20 minute run combined 4-5 days a week with 24/7 activity tracking and calorie counting had me within 3 pounds of my goal weight within 2 months. Started around 145 and now I'm in the ballpark of 125. At 5'6, I can be very, very happy with that. WW was okay for me for a little while, but I plateaued too easily and it was easy for me to cheat. Now, when my fitbit is staring me in the face, telling me I've only walked 2,000 steps by noon, I'm more motivated to keep trying.

I lost 110 lbs in 14 months with WW. they do teach you how to eat better if you follow all the guidlines, not just couting points. The issue with anything is stickingto it long term. I think all the options would work.

Thanks for your motivation ladies! I went and walked 3 miles today in the blazing hot sun. When I wanted to quit after 1.6 miles when I could've gone back to my car I decided to quit being a baby and go around again. Appreciate all your comments!!

Good luck with whatever you choose to do! I'm that same as you. Tried everything, but I lose motivation when I don't see fast results. The only diet I tried with super fast results was the Atkins (induction phase), but I did it all wrong and ate and ate and ate WAY too much fat and protein. I lost weight, sure. I lost like 8 lb in a week. But when I tried to get back to normal eating, I found that I developed a huge appetite and gained everything back within a week or two. I'm having surgery on July 1 and will get on the 21 Day Fix after that.

Move more and eat less / right. Its just as simple as that.

Its not about 70% diet and 30% exercise. You HAVE to move more and burn the calories (aka excess fat).

A vegan who eats great, will and can be unhealthy and overweight simply because they do not move enough. And one would think, ...that if you ate a vegan diet, you would be as thin as a rail.

Get your SO on board. stop the junk, the beer and pizza to one night a week. get a bike, go to the doctors, see what they say...take a walk 30 mins a day.

Move more and eat less. Go on to ANY of the MFP forum boards and they will say the same thing.

Also, get a Fitbit or a MIO Fuse or something. It fun to see your heart rate, see how many or how few steps you took in a day.

I have MIO Fuse and FH has a FitBit, we go to Crossfit in the mornings and we compare our "hearts" on the chart each time. its a great way to be competitive and get healthy with each other.
