NWR: What to wear...to the Wicca Wedding? (got the invite)

PunkRockPrincess, on July 25, 2014 at 7:28 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

OK!

So we finally got the invite. There is not a lot of info on it. They are asking for people to bring finger foods, bar is 2.50 a drink and it is at their home.

Their reception (the big one) will apparently be in California in September. We can't go to that and fiance's (my fiance) family is coming up for this one so they can see our daughter since they are in California and do not get to see her often. So we are going no matter what...no way out now!

Question is...can I rock uber dark skinny jeans and a fancy top or should I go all out dress?

I have some great tops I have not worn in forever and I do not want to feel OVER dressed. I ordered this dress recently for this event (has not arrived yet)...but now I do not feel like buying shoes for it (I do not really own dressy shoes in my current size...since having baby...feet got bigger)

What do ya'll think?

I think your answer is less about the wedding being a Wiccan gathering and more about the type of wedding. It seems like this couple is asking a small group of people to help contribute to the food/group host the reception. That says to me very casual and that skinny jeans would be fine. Hope you have fun!

Wear this dress and whatever shoes you have that are comfortable. You can never be over dressed

    @lovebean

not at all about the wedding being Wiccan... I had just posted a while back about not knowing what the deal was with this wedding that is happening super soon (it is at 9:30pm at night and I found that out via text message from the groom who is my fiance's cousin) ... and I had posted an update saying the reason it was so late at night was because it was a Wiccan wedding (full moon on August 10th...wedding day so they want it at night. I was originally freaking out because I have a 2 year old and no child care at this wedding 4.5 hours away...but it all worked out ...FH's parents are going to watch her while we go to the wedding) and I wanted to put that in my subject in case anyone who had commented before remembered =)

That is all ... but thank you! I figured jeans would be good and I am most comfortable in pants and I am losing all this weight and enjoying the way I look in skinny jeans...haha

Wait, I have to pay for drinks and bring food? And drive 9 hours round trip? For a wedding that starts at 9:30?

I'd stay home. That is ridiculously rude.

Celia, she didn't ask if she should go or not. She asked what she should wear. Can we please stay on topic here? Your comment was completely unnecessary.

Anyway, to answer your question, I think the jeans would be fine. This sounds like a super casual affair, so dressed up jeans should fit the bill just fine. Should you decide to go with a dress, one like in the photo you posted would be ideal.

~*World Of Whimsical*~ ... I am actually excited to see the dress in person. I ordered it and am having it shipped to Torrid to avoid shipping costs (I hate paying shipping...spoiled by Amazon Prime..haha)

If I love it enough...I will wear it but I also love these dressy tops I bought 3 years ago and have not worn because I got pregnant and am just now losing the weight. I guess it will all depend on how it looks ... but I am glad you guys think that jeans is an option, in case the dress looks horrid in person.

Horrid...Torrid...haha I am sure that is not what they intended but totally just cracked myself up!

Your post of a Wiccan wedding Intrigued me so I did some reading. You might want to wear something in natural fiber, no polyester etc. Earth tones with a splash of color. Something to reflect nature. That's all I got. The rest is all mysterious and out of my realm. Smiley smile

Sounds pretty casual so I'd say dressed up jeans is fine. And the wedding sounds like it'll be interesting!

I think that you should consider wearing the dress. I personally don't think it is ever appropriate to wear jeans to a wedding.

BostonBride ...I feel you, that was my concern. I have never worn jeans to a wedding before.

    Rock that dress! So pretty!

(I'm going to kick people out if they wear jeans to my wedding. Then again my invites specifically state, "formal event, no jeans.")

If you're unsure, it's never too late to ask the couple if they prefer formal wear. Otherwise, better overdressed than under.
