NWR: Wisdom Teeth Removal

Cheyenne, on September 19, 2017 at 11:02 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 37

Hi all,

I got my wisdom tooth removed on Thursday of last week. I still have a little bit of pain, mainly like a soreness feeling. Any tips and tricks to eating and dealing with wisdom teeth extraction?

ALSO, I love popcorn and can't eat it until I am healed. FH has been eating popcorn as a snack the past few days and it's torturing meeee!! I wondering if this feeling is similar to when someone is pregnant and shouldn't eat/drink something and their partner does!!

I think I pretty much subsisted off of mashed potatoes and sorbet for over a week. My mom tried to mix things up for me and surprised me with scrambled eggs one day and I couldn't move my mouth enough to chew and I couldn't swallow any of the pieces. She came back to check on me and was really surprised to find all of the eggs still in the bowl, ground into the tiniest bits.

Don't try eggs until you can actually chew.

I had my wisdom teeth out at 15 and barely remember it. (Except for the coming out from under anesthesia. I vividly remember that, because my sisters will never, ever let me forget.)

I do know I ate a LOT of applesauce and milkshakes.

And as to the popcorn...I'm guessing YES, based on the number of times I'd drink wine in front of my sister when she was pregnant and she'd stare at it longingly!

I ate popcorn the same day I got my wisdom teeth out. I just chewed one piece at a time with my front teeth. Lol. I couldn't stay away. Haha

Yes! I keep saying that I'll just suck on the popcorn till they are soft and mushy but noooo, FH is refusing to let me eat some.

I've been making fruit smoothies and eating chili the past few days. I'm just so sick of it ready! I want to eat real food!!

Ice packs, soft ice cream, anything nice and cold will help numb the pain.

I don't remember being restricted in the foods I ate. I have really high pain tolerance, and I don't remember it being painful after the removal (all four) until I developed a dry socket and abscess at the same tooth site (about a week later). That sucked a lot and made it difficult to eat anything that wasn't soup or a smoothie. The dry socket/abscess was also the site of the tooth that had to be broken into three pieces during the removal surgery, which actually made me wake up from the general anesthesia for a moment because it was so painful. That painful experience and the subsequent abscess/dry socket procedure are the only things I remember vividly about my wisdom teeth being taken out. Probably because they were SO unpleasant.

The restricted diet was the hardest part for me.... but listen to the dr. Do not eat the popcorn no matter how badly you want to.... it's not worth the problems that can come with it. I've heard dry sockets are absolutely terrible... I ate a lot of scrambled eggs, soups, mashed potatoes, smoothies, yogurt, and when I could chew a little I made a soft grilled cheese sandwich with goat cheese instead of cheddar cheese because it's not chewy. After a couple days I was dying for some actual protein and I found that eating really small pieces of chicken made me feel much better!

My husband just had his wisdom teeth out last year. He was so adorable with his big puffy cheeks!

I made so many smoothies and homemade ice creams. I found out dairy is *not* the best because it promotes bacteria growth. I also made him a two-sided ice pack but gutting a stuffed snack and put ice packs on either side but when he slept they were still lightly pressed against his face.

I had my wisdom teeth out when I was a teenager and thought I knew it all. I ended up with a dry socket. My biggest recommendation to use Biotene mouthwash and to really follow the directions they give you.

Not only did I eat mostly liquid foods, but two days after the surgery, I had to go to the ER. Apparently during the procedure, my uvula was nicked and it severely swollen. I was literally choking if I tried to talk. They had to give me benedryl and steroids at the hospital to make it go down.

I got all 4 of mine out at the same time last December and my left cheek was swollen and bruised for a week. Literally looked like I punched in the face. Just keep the sockets clean - I used a waterpik - and don't eat anything you really shouldn't.

I had all 4 of mine taken out that were impacted and I could barely open my mouth. I just ate yogurt, chicken broth, apple sauce, anything soft. Keep on top of the meds you were given and lots of Advil even if the last dose hasn't worn off yet. but I think you should switch between Tylenol and Advil. check with your doctor first

I loved Panera mac n cheese as well as Boston Market sweet potatoes/mac n cheese! I didn't have much pain and was up doing laundry and cleaning the apartment same day. I took a few days off from school when I had them removed, but overall an okay experience.

I definitely would not recommend popcorn until you're completely sure you're healed. And use that water syringe religiously!

I'm pretty sure I was able to eat Kraft Mac & Cheese after a day or so and that was fairly easy to chew. Applesauce only does so much!

Mac and cheese. I had a tooth pulled yesterday so I'm craving all the crunchy stuff I can't have.

    I feel your pain!

Take the pain meds if they offer them! Oral pain can go from 0 to 60 fast, so for the first day and a half say on top of them. I had my wisdom teeth taken out long ago, but had a separate oral surgery earlier this year that was similar- water tasted disgusting so I had Gatorade/crystal light on hand to make sure I still stayed hydrated. Don't drink through a straw! I also drank a lot of those soups that have only small noodle pieces... like the chicken and stars, which is something that would normally make me feel gross. The salt tasted good.
