Hi all,

I got my wisdom tooth removed on Thursday of last week. I still have a little bit of pain, mainly like a soreness feeling. Any tips and tricks to eating and dealing with wisdom teeth extraction?

ALSO, I love popcorn and can't eat it until I am healed. FH has been eating popcorn as a snack the past few days and it's torturing meeee!! I wondering if this feeling is similar to when someone is pregnant and shouldn't eat/drink something and their partner does!!

I just got 2 out a few weeks ago and the holes still haven't filled all the way in. At 27, my oral surgeon told me I am an "old patient" and that it takes longer to heal than when you are 15.

Pudding and chicken broth were my best friends. I also drank a ton of naked juice. DO NOT USE A STRAW. It can cause a dry socket and you will be in for a world of hurt.

I was high as shit for days after my teeth were out but I do remember that FH had his fridge stocked with goodies (pre- us living together). I remember I had a lot of anxiety about the wounds getting dirty so I ate a lot of yogurt, mashed potatoes, applesauce... basically anything that I could put a blob of in the center of my tongue and move directly down my throat. I never realized how much I would miss chewing until I had my teeth out. I probably would have gotten mad at FH if he kept eating my favorite crunchy snack in front of me during that time. You're telling me you can't skip it for a few days? Lol

I have been a Dental assistant for 23 years so my advice is... Main thing is to re introduce the other foods (not soft) as you can tolerate but NO popcorn just remember a minute on the lips may be great but the PAIN it could cause is sooooo not worth it. Avoid too HOT or COLD foods Hot increases blood flow and that can cause the blood clot to dislodge and Cold Can be painful. ALSO REALLY IMPORTANT NO STRAWS!! if you don't want to take the strong Pain meds they most likely gave you, then you can alternate Tylenol and Ibuprofen every 2 hours key is to stay on top of the pain don't let it get away from you.

Sleeping with a heating pad on the back of my neck helped a lot. I had a lot of pain in my ears, especially when laying down, after getting my wisdom teeth removed.

Smoothies, ice cream, yogurt, soup, mashed sweet potatoes. Also frozen pastas (mac & cheese, etc) since they're a little bit softer.

I remember going out to dinner a week later and almost crying when they told me they were out of this shredded braised beef I really wanted. I awkwardly tried to explain why to the waiter because he was so shocked at my reaction. I was so sick of pasta, and I LOVE pasta.

@KDoubleU I think I was about to punch the next person who talked about how I was such an old patient (at 28...), and my feeble elderly mouth will take really long to heal.

I ate lots of ice cream, soup and mashed potatoes. A week later I started cutting my food really small chew with my front teeth and swallow. Again I was 16 and was starving. Haha but I healed really well.

Gargle with warm salt water. It doesn't taste good, but it helps!

I got mine our at 17. I lived on mashed potatoes and mac n cheese and any other soft foods I could get my hands on. I was in pain for about 1.5 weeks. Luckily I had minimal swelling.

Am I the only one in existence that had my wisdom teeth grow all the way in before they were pulled? They said I wouldnt have to have them pulled originally but come to find out one came in rubbing my jaw bone and caused a massive infection so they had to pull both on that side. I was awake, just numb... and I was fine 3 hours later.

OP you'll probably be cleared to eat solids again soon. I was cleared within a week and I had all 4 taken out at the same time.

@MrsJones don't be scared. I was put under IV sedation and I don't remember a thing. I was high as a kite for a few hours and slept the rest of the day. I took one perc out of fear but didn't take anymore. I just took ibuprofen after the first day and was perfectly fine. My jaw was a little sore but that's it.

I got my wisdom teeth taken out at 18 and then my tonsils taken out at 19. I didn't think the wisdom teeth were bad at all. I remember eating a lot of yogurt and mac and cheese and even went back to school the next day. The tonsils on the other hand were a nightmare. No food other than liquids or soup broth and no work or school for two weeks!

Ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory, ice-pack. after a couple days I did an epsom salt compress right before bed and that helped. Swish/gargle with warm salt water a couple times a day to promote healing of the openings.

I had 3 wisdom teeth out at 15 when the forgot I still had a layer of bone over the top of them. It took 5.5 hours for three teeth and i vomited blood when I got home. The last one was pulled out when I was 21 and it just popped out. I've also had two teeth pulled and implants put in within the last year and a half. A very similar process.

Smoothies are good, remember no straws. I also recall not really liking the sensation of carbonated beverages at first.

    Take care and rest up!

My wisdom teeth were not even through my gums and were dangerously close to my molars, so I had to be put under too!

I had lots of jello (cherry's my fave) but I had to make sure I didn't chew or suck on anything because I had the dissolving stitches. My oral surgeon was hot though (I wasn't with FH at the time, don't worry) lol

Let's just say my tongue did all the work (there's gotta be some kund of innuendo in there Smiley xd)
