NWR: wisdom tooth pain

Lacy, on November 12, 2016 at 8:36 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 12

Random question: yesterday morning my tooth started to hurt really bad. I went to the dentist, and they said I'd need to have my wisdom tooth removed, but it is not infected or anything, it's just putting pressure on the tooth next to it which is causing pain. She said I don't have to have it removed immediately or anything, and that the pain should be intermittent. But it's still hurting and hasn't stopped. Does anyone know how long is abnormal for the pain to last? I've been taking ibuprofen and doing salt water rinses. I can't have the wisdom tooth removed until at least Black Friday because I'm having surgery next Thursday.

    I'm not a doctor and I certainly can't tell the future but I think the pain will probably last until you get it removed.

    This might be a better question for your dentist.

    Yeah, that should have been a follow up question for your dentist.

    Mine had me in agony for 9 months before I had them removed. I took way too much ibuprofen and Tylenol in that timeframe, I'm sure. I didn't have dental insurance when it started. I finally got dental Insurance and my wisdom teeth out the day after my 18th birthday. The first few days were misery, but I hear that isn't typical. But once my mouth healed it was such a huge relief.

    Oragel or another numbing solution may help. I was given a numbing solution that helped a ton.

    I just had my wisdom teeth out last year. I would ask your dentist to refer you to an oral surgeon. You have to have a consultation before have them removed anyway and you can talk about whether he/she thinks the pain will last.

    I got alot more information from my oral surgeon than my regular dentist.

    Mine usually hurts for about a week or two straight before subsiding. I can always tell when it's about to start bothering me. I get headaches and that side of my face will be very sensitive to the touch. Once the pain starts, it causes my throat to ache, my jawline and ear on the side of the bothersome tooth to ache, and a fever. It's something FH and I plan to take of when he graduates and gets an RN job in a couple of months because I have to have all four removed due to them growing in sideways.

    God bless you OP. If you're in the same amount of pain as I was in back in June then I'd get that extracted ASAP. I thought recovery was going to be horrible which is why I kept putting surgery off but it was a total breeze I mean I know everyone's different but still I'm so relieved to be done with wisdom tooth pain!!

    @bobbi, yes that's exactly how I'm feeling.

    @sass and all others: I did ask my dentist and they told me it should just be an intermittent pain. I asked if it would be like this " for days" and they said no...

    @sara c, my dentists office does IV sedation and oral surgery, they told me just to let them know when I was ready.

    My family is full of dentists, 4 to be exact lol. And wisdom tooth pain is a BITCH. I had mine out last year. I couldn't deal with the constant pain anymore. Sometimes it can last for days. And they would give me headaches and all sorts of things while they were going through a rough patch. See if your dentist will prescribe you Tylenol with Codeine to help you for when it gets unbearably awful. That always helped. Finally, if you get one done, get em all out at the same time, you're already there getting the one done; do em all!
