ny Micro-wedding Reception?

Jonnib23, on October 15, 2020 at 5:52 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 9

Hey guys!

So, I already have a ceremony venue. It's paid for in full and ready to go! However, my new issue is trying to find a place for the reception.

My fiancé I are technically having 2 weddings -- one in NYC (where all my family is and all my fiancé's friends live). The NYC one is larger with about 50 people. The one in IL (where his disabled parents live as well as all his siblings) will only have about 20 people. Because of having no choice but to split them up, we have to spread the budget a bit thin.

I'm looking to host my wedding reception at least close to my wedding ceremony location in Fort Tryon Park, which is where my grandma lives (and where I'll be getting ready). I'm considering Yonkers, The Bronx, Harlem, and Fort Lee (NJ). However, my issue is I'm not finding much within my budget of $5k. I've looked into restaurants, but not many allow for dancing. I've also found 2 within this budget about 12 minutes from my ceremony site, but they stopped randomly contacting me and this is the second time this has happened (I've contacted them in 2019, too.)

All I want is some light music (no DJ) so we can dance once in a while and food. About 14 of my guests aren't even old enough to drink, so some places straight up don't allow us.

If anyone could help me, I'd very much appreciate it Smiley heart

Hmmm. That's a tough one. Have you tried contacting community halls or religious spaces? Some of the latter might have halls they contract out...

You could also look into theatre spaces in the city. They can't have performances until at least June of next year, so they may be looking to rent out the space.

I found a community hall in Harlem, but they don’t allow alcohol and my family might not come without drinks available. I also cannot go to any religious spaces because I’m not religious (the only ones in that area are Jehova’s Witness and Catholic). And the only performance spaces I can find either, again, don’t serve alcohol or are way out of my budget with huge minimums. So, to put it lightly, I feel pretty stuck.

What about Suite 116? That popped up for me in a nearby google search and it looks like they have affordable rates!

I'd also see if Wave Hill or the Botanical Gardens have any smaller gardens you can rent for flexible pricing!

Suit 116 hasn’t replied to my messages I sent because they’re closed due to COVID, so I can’t secure a date. Wave Hill has a membership fee that is my entire budget (not including rental fees). Haven’t seen botanical gardens but I thought Wave Hill WAS the botanical? I’ll double check.

Have you looked at Mario’s on Arthur Ave (Bronx)? They do weddings.
