I will confess that some of the reason we picked NYE is so that everyone would come and PARTY!! What do YOU and your SO do on NYE?

I heard from my caterer that it's their busiest day of the year!

We don't do anything special on NYE, usually hit up a local restaurant for whatever deal they've got going on. But we're total homebodies, so we're usually back on the couch before midnight Smiley smile

I'm just really hopeful that there isn't a huge snowstorm before people fly in - we have family coming in from Boston / New England, so my fingers are crossed!! I think leaving the snow and spending some time in the sun is part of the reason we have so many coming from out of town! Smiley smile

You are definitely doing things right, leaving the snow behind. Flying out of Boston is rarely bad, if they get to Logan. Because the airport is on a peninsula surrounded by warmer than air water. So that and central Boston, usually not snow when 3-4 inches ten miles away, so flights go out for the first many hours of a storm before it accumulates. Have a great time, the trouble may be getting some people to leave!

Sounds like a good reason, how did you like getting married right after? Is it nice having your anniversary near-but-not-on a holiday?

It makes sense, especially if you think about all of the people holding parties in their homes and ordering food!! I am glad the hotel is taking care of all of that -- less for me to deal with!

I think this is a very unfair expectation. As I do when posters say the same thing about Saturday nights. What you could have been doing instead on that night has nothing to do with anything. Guests should choose whether or not to attend, if they are not committed to anything else, based on their feelings for the couple. Go or don't go. Anyone who makes a decision based on whether the spread meets their standards for food and drink and venue, thinks more if themself than the couple marrying. This self centered view is really not appropriate for someone else's life changing occasions. Couples need to plan the wedding they want and can afford, not up the costs because of what guests could possibly be doing elsewhere.

    Haha self centered? okay...

New Years Eve is a big holiday for a lot of people. Not only do people have standing plans every year, it is also an expensive time to travel/stay in a hotel. It is my OPINION that one should over host on such a prominent holiday to make up for those facts. OP is doing just that, so she's set. If someone wants to cheap out and not do that, they shouldn't pick a holiday IMO.

But I've never been to a wedding that wasn't hosted amazingly well. Because the brides and grooms were gracious enough to host their guests at that level, not because the guests were self centered (one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard on here by the way, and I've been here a while. LOL).

Ah, I should have clarified - first dating anniversary. Neither of us had had relationships last to a year before though so it was a big deal for both of us.

We're actually looking forward to having a new anniversary. Our dating anniversary right now is the day before my mom's birthday and also the weather is almost always terrible and ruins plans we make.
