Observation: Choreographed Mom/Son Dance

ValZtoB, on October 11, 2014 at 10:58 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

FH and I were discussing his dance with his mom for the wedding. We went online to get some ideas about songs. We ran across a ton of videos of choreographed mother and son at different weddings. FH made the observation that in the majority of the videos that we spent some time watching just for fun, the brides didn't seem to be all that thrilled with the whole thing. In many cases people were laughing and clapping and having a good time and then the video would pan to the bride and she would look either bored or annoyed or something similar.

Now, this is definitely not an option for us, but I was wondering how each of you would feel about something like that at your wedding. Would you think it was cute? Would you be annoyed? I would think it was fun.

FH will dance with his mother and his aunt. His mother and I don't really get along, but his aunt is a hoot and a half. I look forward to both dances, but I know his aunt is going to do something. I just don't know what. But I can't wait to see it.

I think they are kind of cool and funny but it puts the attention on only 1/2 of the couple when it's supposed to be their day.

I would so be the resting bitch face bride for that one.

My mom wants me to do a dance like that with my step dad, she has lost her damn mind. Some that i've come across on the internet were great. Some I found myself cringing in embarrassment for them. I think they are sometimes just like the maid of honor/ best man speech- -if people don't understand your humor or really know you they might find it annoying.

I find the choreographed dance thing self conscious and mortifying; just like Jana brought up about the 'cute' speeches. Sometimes they are just tasteless and often embarrassing.

My FH and his mom are planning to do a choreographed first dance... To the evolution of dance. If it's something funny like that I think it's great! But if it's choreographed ballroom dancing, no that's weird I would be upset.

I dont like any of the choreographed dancing.. especially when they are trying to be funny! not everyone will know their sense of humor and 2 minutes is a long time to try to keep people laughing.. they all eventually just get old and people wait for it to be over. i think its such a sweet and special moment for the parents to have with their child and they should have that moment together and not trying to make everyone else laugh.

I think that this type of thing could work for a specific, certain type of mother/son... But I definitely think these types of personalities are uncommon.

I think it shows a mommas boy relationship in full glory. let the bride & groom shine that day.
